...I am asking tihs because I have one .ws domain at Godaddy and today, I decided to surf through their site, only to find that private registrations are $8+!! When I first signed up for that .ws domain, I am pretty sure that I asked a million times about the renewal costs (private registrations were at $1.95).
Now I have to pay $18+ for my domain!
Does anyone know if the .ws registry is maybe considering making ws domains transferrable? :P
Not in the forseeable future. Your stuck at GD. Privacy renewal has always been $8.99 at GD.

I think you will find that the initial purchase of the domain was $1.95 but renewal is $8.99 correct me if I am wrong but I think this is the case.

.ws dont show lots of owner information anyway.
