I'm thinking on buying a .cc domain name. My only question is What do you mean?
If you know what a .cc domain name stands for, please tell me! :)

It's the local domain of the Cocos Islands, part of Austrailia.

Yes, .cc is a country code TLD. But along with .tv, they are the only 2 ccTLDs promoted officially by verisign as a global TLD and alternative to other normal generic TLDs AKA .com/.net/.org/.info/.biz/.name.

Verisign is a private company. They can promote things, but they can't promote things "officially". They paid someone a lot of money for the right to run registration services, that's all it is.
