View Full Version : TalkHosting.com, for discussing hosting related issues, in a community atmosphere.
Alan - Vox 06-06-2002, 10:11 AM What is talkhosting.com?
Four days ago we opened up http://talkhosting.com to the public, since opening we
have doubled members,
threads, and posts every single day. Whats different about talkhosting.com
is that, talkhosting.com is run by the members who make up
the community, we take each and every recommendation seriously and have
implemented over 90% of the suggestions brought forth by our users, any
major change we want to make we run it by our community of friends. This is
what truly makes us different, when you visit talkhosting.com you wont see
people at each other necks, or someone simply trying to make a buck, but a
close knit family. Moderators will be required not to be an employee or
owner of a hosting company, and all moderators will be required to remain
unbiased.
Prizes and Giveaways:
Some large hosting companys have been kind enough to donate products and
services to be given away. Some of these include: Dedicated Servers,
Colocation, Reseller Hosting Accounts, and Shared Hosting Accounts. Over
the next several weeks we will be giving out multiple prizes to members
based upon a series of criteria including: Post Count, Thread Count,
Quality of Posts/Threads, Referrals, and community spirit and
participation. Basically what this means is that if you come and
participate in the community buy contributing quality posts and threads,
and invite your friends and customers to join you have a good chance of
winning a free product or service.
We look forward to seeing you on board :) And to all of you already
participating in our fine community, THANK YOU!
TalkHosting.com is not our community its yours! Come join your friends and

Nope, we allow one ad announcing any new forum in Related Offers and Requests. After that, it should be advertised in the signature area only.
tazd9t9, your one has been used...
It isn't really an offer however as long as it is something related to web hosting we allow it (once, but we do allow it). In the past we've removed nearly identical forums, however I'm not feeling that anal this evening... :D
If there are endless ads for similar forums, most likely they all will be tossed, however one, once in a while isn't a big deal and people generally like to make the rounds of a few forums. Gotta do something while you're waiting for new posts to be posted here ;)
Anywhooo, good luck with the forum boys...

KualoJo 06-08-2002, 09:22 PM Is it me or does talkhosting run real slow?
I sure hope its not me on my blueyonder cable connection or there will be a phone call to my cable co tomorrow!
:)
Alan - Vox 06-08-2002, 09:29 PM There is a problem with the data center just now, it normally runs very quickly :)
hostNOX 06-08-2002, 09:33 PM Splash would this datacenter happen to be owned by collo4dallas also ? Because right now i am getting extremely slow speeds it isn't funny ie. i can't even login to ssh, ftp, cpanel, whm etc...
If it is a network problem with the datacenter how long do you think tell they will fix the problem up.
Thanks Splash.
Alan - Vox 06-08-2002, 09:36 PM yeah its that data center.
Ive no idea how long they will be down for.
hostNOX 06-08-2002, 09:47 PM Whelp, i know i'll be getting refunded for this time down. Look at this ping.
Pinging 209.120.143.141 with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This, dosen't look good and am already thinking about moving to an better datacenter.
Alan - Vox 06-08-2002, 09:49 PM because of one down time? your joking right?
hostNOX 06-08-2002, 10:16 PM Not, really this is serious as i am just starting out and this dosen't look good for a first impression on my company's side nor there company's side. Also i was told this was one of the best datacenter's, this dosen't look like an positive for that comment. I was also guranateed 100% uptime, we will see how that goes also and see if they credit back the money or what. This episode is just a joke, me quiting there service is not close to a joke, but hell that is my opinion.
cbaker17 06-08-2002, 10:55 PM Service will be restored in approx 5 minutes although i dont know how long level 3 will take to stop prepending on certain routes, most people should see service up and running in 5 minutes though. I will be sending out a email in a few minutes or as soon as i have a chance on what transpired in depth. Quick overview is that level 3 screwed up something and again ill go into depth in a second im on the hone with about 5 people.
ffeingol 06-08-2002, 11:24 PM Too bad there seems to be some sort of network/routing problem. I want to go sign up :bawling:.
Frank
cbaker17 06-08-2002, 11:47 PM Service is restored customers will recv a complete timeline of what transpired as well as info for credits, and what action is being taken against what happened, here is a brief summary of what transpired.
First fo all not all customers were affected, just those on certain ip blocks.
here is what happened:
1. A large customers of ours almost entire rack of servers were hacked, the servers launched a attack on our internal network and outside network causing about 3000-4000mbps of data overflow.
While this isnt really a issue for us as we have ways to fix this, about 30 minutes into the attack, level 3 at the same time screwed up routing to almost half of the world :(
All customers except those that were involved in the attacks are online now.
This is NOT acceptable to me, and once again Customers will receive a complete report on whats being done about it as soon as i have a chance.
Incognito 06-08-2002, 11:54 PM If you are going to let one incident destroy you and/or change all your decisions as far as providers, then, frankly, you have chosen the wrong business.
If, as you said, Colo4Dallas, AffordableColo, etc. had an excellent reputation before today...then, all they should have now is an excellent reputation except for one incident.
And, as to 100% uptime guarantee....no one can do that....what you are probably referring to is a 100% uptime SLA....but that doesn't guarantee 100% uptime...it just guarantees some sort of refund, credit, etc. if less than 100%.
And if you move everytime something like this happens, then you will go through more data centers than you can imagine, because none of them are immune to problems.
cbaker17 06-09-2002, 12:27 AM Thanks this is like the 1st downtime of any extended period weve had in almost a year. And as i said, ill be informing you on how what actions were taking to make sure this never happens again. Ill try to get something out to customer in the morning, im gonna be screaming at level 3 and taking care of customers whos service has been suspended do to server comprimises for the rest of the night
Colo4-Paul 06-11-2002, 02:57 PM Colo4-Dallas was not down. We only provide space to allow our customers to go directly to the carriers. We also provide remote hands to help our customers and their carriers resolve problems rapidly. We cannot control carrier or customer performance, except to guarantee power and cross-connects are up at all times. There has not ever been a carrier issue that we were responsible for, including this one.
I can assure you that there are no companies who are concerned for their customers uptime more than Colo4 and Affordablecolo.
StarGate 06-16-2002, 09:54 PM ... the best of luck :)
