Hi all,

For the past week, i have been struggling to move one domain, from one host to another and now i receive a mail stating that i need to wait 60 days for my domain transfer to be approved on the basis of :

- The domain name is within 60 days (or a lesser period to be determined) after being transferred (apart from being transferred back to the original Registrar in cases where both Registrars so agree and/or where a decision in the dispute resolution process so directs).

Well, the weird thing is that i have never ordered any such change whatsoever and especially since i have no control of my domain name (bought it through my webhost and they manage it), i was wondering if there was anything i could do for this particular case.

Yash..

Cases like yours are the reason why we always advise people to keep their domain name management and their hosting separate...

You should normally be able to change your hosting company without having to transfer your domain to a different registrar - all that is required is a change of name servers which you should normally be able to do yourself through your domain name control panel. Of course if you don't have a domain name control panel, and if your host is in control of your domain, then you can't easily change name servers. If you host is a reseller (as opposed to a registrar) then there should be some mechanism for taking him out of the loop - you would need to talk to the registrar about that.

The above is all very general, non-specific advice - to be able to advise you properly one would need to know the identities of the parties involved (i.e., the hosting companies and/or or resellers/registrars)

As Lubeca said. All you need to do is to change the nameservers of your domain to you new host. No need to move the domain at all. All registrars have this 60-day wait after the initial registration or transfer. Nothing to do with web-hosting.

Thanks for the reply,

Well at the time i started my first hosting account, i wasn't much experienced about the domains, registrars, etc... so i never thought necessary to register my own domain names.

My current webhosting company, WireNine, had the domain at Enom, and i tried moving it from there to GoDaddy, but i guess that was a wrong move since now i can't even change the nameservers at my current host since i get the error : ERROR: "Errors modifying nameservers: This domain is currently pending transfer" so basically it means that until i can get my domain settled i am basically hopeless :(

I'm not sure I'm understanding you correctly, yash07. The domain was at eNom and your hosting was at WireNine. Was everything working correctly? If not, all you needed to do was the change your nameservers at eNom to your WireNine hosting. It would then resolve. THEN perform the transfer to GoDaddy. I can think that eNom would not allow you to change nameservers on a pending transfer domain. The transfer would then take the old nameservers to your GoDaddy account. You would have no downtime at all. Unless you have wrong nameservers set at eNom. Then you would have to wait until the domain arrives in your GoDaddy account to correct. This is SOP, and not the fault of either eNom or GoDaddy.

Actually it's the other way around since the OP stated there's an ongoing transfer
request. No domain record modifications (e.g. renewal, DNS change, etc.) will be
allowed until a transfer request is concluded, whether successful or not.

yash07, try to deny the transfer with whomever the gaining registrar is. The email
about this might specifically indicate how to confirm or deny.

Once it's completed, that's when you can possibly change DNS with your current
domain provider.

Isn't that what I said (approx)? :) I think yash07 needs to explain the whole story to save us guessing. Why does he want to change his nameservers? They must have been working before since he/she bought hosting along with domain registration from WireNine.
