I was wondering what software product you, as web hosts and server administrators, would like to see produced in the near future. This can include software that is currently not meeting your needs or that has not been produced.
I am an independent software developer looking for a new project, and would be pleased to entertain any ideas you all might have. Thanks.

a quality product to allow ASP on Linux that's opensource would be nice :) At least one that does as much as chillisoft but remembers it's not there to chew through server resources like it's at an 'all you can eat buffet'

There are very few things that run only on Windoze, but one or two of them seem to put people off hosting on Linux...

A software to reliably catch crooks trying to sign up using stolen credit cards.

An anti-virus software for administrators, used to catch abusers, crooks, spammers, etc. With daily signature updates that'll catch them when they illegitimately use cgi's, form mails, php, shell commands, etc.

True billing/accounting software that can interface with a control panel. Its just to much work to keep up with the paperwork and make sure you are actually getting what you should be.

By the way, what it would be, true billing/accounting software?

Something that allows sign ups, tracks all overage or additional purchases of customers. Tracks resellers, shared, ecommerce, vps and dedicated customers. Has a web interface for customers to be able to pay on line and change info. Allow the host to process transactions other than for their hosting, ie: design work, hardware, consulting, etc...

Basically, all encompassing software to run a web hosting business.

H-Sphere just doesn't cut it :D

i think a package that basically did "everything" would be excellent . I could only imagine a piece of software that included an admin area , a cpanel , accounting/billing , trouble tickets , and online credit card processing , etc ... It would also be nice to add security features to this software as mentioned above . I dont know what type of project you're looking to build , but hopefully everyones comments inspire you ... good luck

H Sphere is the closest I have found...and they are currently polling their customers to get ideas on what can be done to make the billing system better. If they improve the billing with our suggestions it will be great, now it is adequete.
