View Full Version : starcraft
dbzgod 06-05-2002, 02:09 PM Hey. I love playing starcraft. Right now my clan (FB/Flameing Blades) is looking for people with cd keys that do not need/want them anymore. If you could could you please email me (webmaster@thessjworld.com) with the key. Your key will be used for a bot seeing as how we are at war with a different clan.
Thanks,
dbzgod
Interesting site. No graphics except background. And its nice. Keep it up :)
TheException 06-05-2002, 03:35 PM I remember playing StarCraft... its been a while...
Good Times...
just played 2v2 last night and won after my partnet died after awhile and we killed off his zerg partner
I remember I hated zergs and their rushes..
dbzgod 06-05-2002, 07:55 PM Anyone have an extra key? Or maybe you just dont play much anymore. Im still looking. And very desperate.
divinetruth 06-05-2002, 08:40 PM how old are you dbzgod ? you know , your prolly not going to get a key.
dbzgod 06-05-2002, 10:24 PM Well I kinda figured I would not but it is always worth a try. And what does my age have to do with anything?
tagalaxy.net 06-06-2002, 01:12 AM anyone here want a game?
when i used to play frequently, i was pretty good, then the evils of Rogue Spear & Red Alert 2 stole me away..
a couple of weeks ago i reinstalled it, and im working my way back into form :)
post here, PM or email me if you want a game :)
dragonhawk 06-06-2002, 02:10 AM Those were the good all days... not a care in the world and games were just everything...:stickout
MGCJerry 06-06-2002, 05:11 AM Ahh... Starcraft... The 'toss Carriers on "Money Maps"... :D
I used to be sooooo dam good at Starcraft, but since my CD-ROM cracked the disk I cant play it anymore :bawling: So I guess I could give you my CD key, but that would make me look like a pirate.
Zerg - Kicked butt, Hope you like Hydralisks, and Mutalisks ;)... err, on the receiving end of it... :) Ohh, not to mention me reaching that f'n 200 control limit  Thats lotsa zergs... plus when you gotta control more than 3-5 bases.
'Toss - If you dont kill me in 5 mins, you'd better have a well placed, and arranged defensive system, cause I'd fly carriers right into your front door :D then send in the goons... Then some zealots, then reinforcements...
Terran - I'm easy pickin's.. :) Ok... I let you off, I totally reek as Terran. but my friend, will fly those darn battle cruisers up your butt with the Yamato Gun...
Clans??? Never been part of one, but I did backstab "{S}Goon_Sniper", leader of "Clan Sniper" (when I played back in early 2001). I thought about going back out an re-purchasing a copy of SC, and maybe BW...
Ok, I'm done ranting.. :)
i have two of each disk, SC and BW
i only paidfor one of each tho ;)
and they are both legal copys - non burned
tagalaxy.net 06-06-2002, 05:02 PM never played BW....considered buying it, but never had the money at the right time
Terran is my fav, Protoss a close second
Zerg i cant play for **** with :P
cimshimy 06-06-2002, 05:54 PM I gave up SC and BW for Jedi Outcast and Counter-strike.
tagalaxy.net 06-07-2002, 01:06 AM i'm yet to play Jedi Knight or Jedi Outcast, i love and own the original Dark Forces though...
i never got into Counter Strike...far prefer Rogue Spear or even the original Team Fortress
Mxhub 06-07-2002, 07:04 AM I love starcraft.
How about 200 zerglings( with speed upgrade ) rushing into your base? Give me all your carrriers, you still can't beat my baby zergling. :D :D :D
dbzgod 06-07-2002, 08:30 AM How about 400 lings rushing your base. Even better
Mxhub 06-07-2002, 08:34 AM What's your best race?
My best is protoss and then follow by zerg and terran.
Terran can be deadly if you know how to use it. Early tank + marine + medic is powerful.
dbzgod 06-07-2002, 03:33 PM Protoss and zerg are tied for me.
MGCJerry 06-07-2002, 03:40 PM My Best: Protoss <-- If you want to kill me, do it *early* otherwise those little rushes will just piss me off ;)
Competent: Zerg <-- Power in numbers ;)
Totally Suck: Terran <-- I dont know their units too well :bawling:
Hmm.... The only way I can see anyone with 200 zerglings, is if they dont have any other unit such as a drone... However if you can get the resources to support your base it is quite effective, cause the overwhelming numbers. When people do that to me, I hope they still have something in their base to defend it ;)
Upgrades are usually started as soon as the "Forge" or "evolution chamber" are finished, and at the minimum, I build 3 of those. I rarely have over 500 minerals at one time cause I'm always building.
I've had little experience with BW, so I dont exactly know a lot about that expansion.
tagalaxy.net 06-07-2002, 06:48 PM bear in mind i havent played BW :(
Terran....defend the base with a mix of marines and the odd firebat inside bunkers, with a decent number of missile turrets and of course spider mines
once your bass has the defense to be left alone for a little while, move a good squadron of BC's close to the enemy main base. Then, 2-4 squadrons of 6-8 Wraith's each on cloak as far as you can go before the first unit spots you. Then bring in the BC's as backup (Wraith's are used as sacrificial lambs to destroy anything that can attack the air). Combine this with a squadron of Siege tanks and Goliaths (using the tanks in siege mode, Goliath's protecting them, then move forward, then back to siege mode etc etc) and bam, you've won :)

I've seen this tactic many times, and I've learned how to stop it dead in its tracks (but in bad enough shape where someone else can take me out).
It is still a good tactic nonetheless, and is very effective.
Ok, heres a couple questions. How long was your longest game? What was your highest score (or kill count or both)?
Longest game: 1 hr, 11 mins
Highest score: about 880,000
Most kills: about 1300
dbzgod 06-07-2002, 10:28 PM Longest Game Time: 3hours 17 minutes
Most Kills: 1792
tagalaxy.net 06-09-2002, 02:34 AM havent played recently enough to remember
i know ive been over 2 hours though.....
btw, MGCJerry, want to tell how you'd counter it? im always interested to hear problems with my game, and maybe ill be able to improve it a little ;)

damn :eek2: That must have been one sweet slugfest :)

Never assume any attack is invincible (directed for almost any RTS game). Some people just might have something in the right place at the right time :)
It is beatable, but its not an easy, short, or cheap defensive. It is made only worse if the one on the receiving end gets attacked while warding off such an offensive. I have yet to beat this offensive with Zerg, thats usually when I abandon that base ;)
Zerg- Beg for mercy, or rush before anyone can get too built up :)
Terran- I totally suck at terran. Odd huh? I just cant build fast enough with them.
protoss- For this to work effectively, you need quite a large resouce income. Outline your base with the cannons then add another row directly behind it (space permitting). You should also randomly place cannons around the interior of the base (there is not such thing as too much, only too little). Make sure all of your stuff is completely upgraded. build at least 3 forges to get your upgrades going good. If its a money map, you can fit an average of 8 rows of cannons at the door, however doing this will prevent "goons" from being able to leave the base. You should make sure that atleast 3 pylons are covering your structures. Carriers are useless unless they are completely upgraded, if they arent upgraded, go with scouts. You should also have at least 4 observers on a patrol route along your borders for those pesky cloaked guys ;). Since generally a squadron of BCs have more power than siege tanks, your concentration should be on air defenses (or anything that can shoot both ground and air), unless they re going more ground then air (always keep spying on the enemy to see what you're up against, first of all you should never let your enemy get built up this big). Once someone pulls this attack on you, forget about going offensive, til you can get the attacker to back down (when and if you do, then worry about getting rid of them). Depending how persistant the attacker and defender are, you may be in for a long messy battle, then it comes down to who actually knows the units better for what purposes. Going for resource income isnt too effective late in game, unless if they have been continuously attacked from the beginning.
This is generally for a 1 on 1, but it gets more complicated with at least 3 players (you got that 3rd player who musty make a decision on who to attack, most assume go for the defendersince they think they will be weakened)... There is generally a little more to it, but I find that being unpredictable is the best way to ensure that this tactic either fails, or is brutally successful.
Some tips:
* Keep the enemy spies out of your base at all costs.
* Harass your enemy from the beginning, but dont go full scale unless you know your forces are superior, and that you can finish them off in 1 wave.
* Never let the enemy know where any of your bases are.
* Learn the interface, people that can give orders faster, have a better defending ability.
* Always research till you are fully upgraded.
* Early in game, go for defenses, then spy to see what youre up against. 1 to 4 units are fine (1-2 protos, 2-3 terran, 3-4 zerg). This is harassment. If possible, go for resources but dont reinforce these "scouts".
* Remember that, some people are more defensive than others (I'm a defender ;) and damn good at it).
Overall, it depends on the defenders ability to give orders, see what youre doing, knowing the interface, and general defensive proactices. A persistant defender, is a tough defender.
Disclaimer: These are merely things that are helpful to know, and may be pieced together any way you wish. What works for one person may not work for others. I attempt to give out the general ideas, and let the person experiment with different ideas. Wisdom through failure.
Just my 4 cents... :D I'm getting tired now...
tagalaxy.net 06-09-2002, 09:19 PM im a defensive builder...
first 3rd of the game is entirely defence
second third is a little defence but mostly building up a large attack force
last third is a little more defence (for when you need to be concentrating on the attack) and then attacking
quick poll - do you all use the keyboard shortcuts?
i used to, never do now though...not sure why
progex 06-09-2002, 10:13 PM *******. I haven't even touched my SC cd in a loooong time. How old is this game?
Ah.... I remember those fun-as-crap "tvb" games with so much lag at the choke point bridge that you could download a Star Wars: Episode II VCD by the time it was finished. :)
Anyways, what are your guys' records?
Mine: 123-12-5
dbzgod 06-09-2002, 10:22 PM Ya I use the shorcut keys. Saves me much time when playing.
My record is 6-2-1. It just started a few days ago so let me get going a bit.
MGCJerry 06-09-2002, 10:33 PM I'm a defender too, but it usually takes me awhile to get a good offensive force. If there are comps playing (good for those little rushes, and meat walls) you usually gotta go defensive or else.
God all this SC talk is making me want to play it, but dont have a working disk :bawling:
quick poll - do you all use the keyboard shortcuts?
When I played it, yes... I also do the same for any other game, and sometimes I can give commands faster on the keyboard then the mouse (providing the interface supports it).
How old is this game?
I think is is around 5-6 years old (1996-1997) but I may be wrong, and I prolly am.
Anyways, what are your guys' records?
The last I played, I was in "Sniper" clan (err about to backstab them with another clan ;) )
I think the final record for all my names combined was about: 210-43-28
tagalaxy.net 06-10-2002, 01:34 AM came out in 97
ive had several names...simply because i kept forgetting my password ;)
my longest running one was 100 - 42 - 16 (i quit when i got to 100)
