I no this has been covered several times, as I've searched through the formus (this site is worth 100*the crappy mail list btw!) - Can I confirm the following:

1) Installing "RaQ4-RaQ3-POP-before-Relay-1.3pre2.pkg" will allow me to connect to my server and send mail from o/e
2) In order for a mail app to send it needs to authenticate with the server
3) Website sendmail stuff will still work
4) The server is still secure (ish) and should get no spam sent from it

Hope you peeps can just sort me out on this... thanks

Everything but #4, yes. You can't say that exactly. What it does is open a relay for a short period of time (15 minutes). This is better than wide open, but it doesn't prevent spam (in the way I think you think it might).

Also, if one of your users is the spammer (which is most often the case), you still have the problem.

Thanks Chicken! I think point 4 should really of meant - I'm not opening up my server as spam central, more than prevent it altogether...
