i transfered set up about 30 domains onto my new raq4r. although the settings on the raq and in DNS are identical (except for the different domain names of course) all web sites resolve when i type http://www.domain.com on my browser but some web sites kick back to my main domain for the server if i type in domain.com without the www in front. can anyone explain this?

Can you give us an example of one of the domain names, and I'll look at the zone file. The most likely problem is that the A record for domain.com points to a different IP Address than the A record for http://www.domain.com.

Like I said, give us an example of one of the domains having problems, and I'll take a look.

below are the DNS settings cut and pasted here for one of the domains that this is happening on.

harborcos.com has an IP of 216.234.186.114
mail for harborcos.com is delivered to harborcos.com with a preference of 5
www has an IP of 216.234.186.114
mail for www is delivered to harborcos.com with a preference of 5
Non-matching DNS requests forwarded to 216.234.186.114

what do you make of it?

I haven't had any probs with the new RaQ4r I got. So long as...

DNS is set up for the domain:
domain.com resolves to IP address
www A RECORD resoves to IP address

Server is set up for domain:
www as host name
domain.com as domain name
web alias: domain.com
email alias: domain.com

-All should work fine... in theory. Is this what you have?

I FIGURED IT OUT! tera-byte told me to leave the "web server alias" field blank. well you need to put the domain name here for it to resolve without the www in front.

yeah, although I was told the same thing, I figured out that it was a needed element. Steve probably doesn't do many domain set ups, so I forgive him. :)
