Hello,

<off>
Last weeks I've been looking for shared hosts that would allow 2 or 3 GB storage for a price of approx. 40-50-60 dollars. I had to come to the conclusion that such a category does not exist. There are some hosts that allow storage around 1 GB ( http://www.1000megs.com or http://www.cwihosting.com ), but couple of people either on this board or on some other forums do not seem to like them. Vincent's company ( http://www.jtan.com ) looks like ok, but they require annual subscription. Maybe in some months I would need a dedicated server anyway, so, I am trying to figure out if this would work for me.

Raq3 server configurations at 4webhosting and maybe at some other hosts start with machines equipped with 32 megs of RAM. I understand from posts on this board and from some other sources that advanced sites require much more ram: 128 or even 256 megs.

What kind of site is the raq3 with 32 megs designed for?

Would my site run ok on such a configuration? My updated site would have some 3000-4000 pageviews a day, approx. 30% of which would be cgi-s (perl), monthly traffic would be around 10 gig. I plan to host only my two domains on the server.

Thanks for any input! Probably other people are interested in those cheap raq soulutions, too.

My first dedicated server was a brand new RaQ3 with 32 MB RAM. I had about 15 domains on it, it used about 5 gigs/month bandwidth, and it ran like lightning compared to the virtual hosting accounts I had been used to.

Based on the description of your intended use, I think a RaQ3 with 32 MB would suit you fine.

The good news: If it starts to slow down, it is only a one-time fee to upgrade the RAM and you'll be back up to speed. :)

rdx,

Hello again! Just FYI, JTAN will start to bill customers monthly (or 3, 6, 12, or 24 months in advance at discounts) with our new promotion. :)

Also, I don't own JTAN. :)

Hello ppl,

Thanks for the infos.

Chris, this is good news, really.

Vincent, yet an other good news item. Maybe I should wait a week or two and sign up at your boss'es company :)

Anyway, could you give a URL where one can find benchmark testing / reports from raq users? http://www.cobalt.com is obvious, anything else?

Have a nice day,

rdx.

rdx,

You'll see our new special in the Advertising forum soon. I'd post it here, but I don't want to break the rules. :)
