CagedTornado 06-05-2002, 03:56 PM Gosh.
As a past customer of ACSDataNet (from almost a year ago) I got this email.
On a whim I thought I would go to Network Solutions and do a 'whois' on port80comm.com.
What I found stunned me (and confirmed my suspicions):

I have one word to say to any potential customer of theirs:
Yikes.

jarrod 06-07-2002, 09:34 PM For some reason, I just decided to visit acsdatanet.com again. Upon seeing the website had changed to port80 comm., I got interested and also did a whois. Only now it does not list Clint as the owner, instead:

So I searched here for Port80comm.com, and I look what I found :P Good grab Dan on the whois before it was changed.

Dan,
I do not think it appropriate to assume that we "just rebranded and opened up shop again". What I think is interesting is that you are basing your entire theory on a whois lookup.
To clear things up...I registered the domain. Therefore, by default, I am listed under all the contacts. I am the CTO of Port80, so it may be appropriate that I be listed. Since you brought this to my attention, I have gone back and correct the contact info. So as not to create wide spread hysteria.
I will concede that Port80 acquired ACS and Escalade's client base. But that is all. I was hired on as CTO. Therefore, I am still in the thick of things.
I am just a little put off and concerned that you make the above statements about company you have no information on, other than a whois record.
Kinda makes me wonder, if you are not out just to start rumors.

Fair enough. I explained that I hadn't really done business with your company in my post. I actually thought I made it pretty clear that I was just using the information in the whois lookup to do a little correlation -- that's all. I'm glad to hear that's not the case -- that is what you're saying, right?

I hope your not implying that I was trying to 'create wide spread hysteria'. I was simply trying to state 'buyer beware' (I think that's pretty reasonable considering our history).

Thanks for being honest.

Well, to be honest -- I know that you're involved, and I have my own horror stories that directly involve you (in addition to many others told by other folks). That's all the information I need. The whole point of my post was to make people sit up and notice that something was 'amiss', so I'm glad it had its desired effect.

Not out to start rumors, I apologize if I came off that way -- just trying to point out what I felt was the obvious, that's all.
Thanks for adding to our community -- it's refreshing to see you post here!

Hostlead 06-08-2002, 01:31 PM I agree with clint-port80!
There is so many people in here that don't know what they are talking about and are making companies look bad for no reason!
MattF 06-08-2002, 02:39 PM I'll add a few words in response to the last reply, this is not targetted at any specific company, and the advice might be obvious to some.
The customer is always king, even when they're wrong you have to accomdate them and make them feel good, sometimes it takes a small loss to part on good terms, companies that don't see this are not customer-orientated (it might work for some though). Companies don't get a bad reputation because of questioning and/or because someone does some digging, there are answers to all questions (it's upto to decide if its all true though). Companies get a bad reputation because they don't satisfy the customer or they're not completely honest. I know some forum members will argue that their competition will put them down pretending to be a customer or ex-customer, but it takes more than one or two feedbacks to get a bad reputation.

DV411 11-11-2004, 12:51 AM Any news on this topic, and contact info on Clint Coxwell? He wrote a bad check to us in May '03, for a product (video editing card), promised to pay, or to return the product, but never did, and is nowhere to be found.
Small Claims Court won't hear the case unless we serve him with a copy of the suit, i.e. we need to find him first.
Thanks for any help.

Wow, talk about back from the dead. I'd actually like to get my hands on Ryan Champion . . . but that's another story.
