Hello-

I have two dedicated servers, each hosted as different facilities.

I'd like to run primary DNS on one, and secondary on the other. (Primary is at Dialtone---secondary at digitalNation)

The primary DNS is up and running, at NS.MYDOMAIN.COM.

Now if I want to register NS2.MYDOMAIN.COM, can I just point it at an IP address of my digitalNation server at Network Solutions? Does the name ("NS2.MYDOMAIN.COM") even mean anything?

Secondly, is there an advantage to running this as a slave? Or do I have to?

Thanks for your help!

On the main Nameserver (ns1.yourbox.com) you need to setup ns2.yourbox.com in named. The only benefit is that you can have your websites on the 2nd box still working once your 1st box goes down. You need to make sure to add domains to both ns1 and ns2.
