I found this (http://www.top92.net/) directory that has free link submissions. I heard that links from Dmoz clones can hurt PR since Google punishes them. I don't know if links from this directory will be helpful, harmful, or does not have effect at all. What do you think ?

Google has been tweaking algorithms of late and seems to simply ignore DMOZ clones so I doubt if links from them would either help or hinder.

I agree, I can't Google penalising for something you have not control over. However they are starting to get tough on paid type links and some of the directories that operate this service.

Free link submission doesn't mean a dmoz clone. A dmoz clone imports the entire dump over - and google ignores/blacklist the site, so I heard. If everyone starts creating 4million links directory (meaning every link, description, structure the same), the web will be overflooded.

However, it does not mean that any site with link submission is illegal. The site u mentioned should be OK, because they do not use dmoz's database, but starting from scratch. They can be their own editor and write about their views about the site that is in their own link directory. It is legal.

Totally agreed. i was really confused when read first posts here.

On that site go to the - This directory is proudly powered by and go to the link.
there's already written product to quickly build such a sites. is that too illegal?

that guys already sold few adv. links on top and have PR:4.
so i can't understand why don't you like them, especially if they have link to your site.
