- AVG - Ewido Anti-Spyware
- Ad-Aware SE
- Spybot Search & Destroy
- SpyNoMore
- Twister Anti-Trojan
- Spy Sweeper
- Spyware Blaster
- SuperAntiSpyware
- XoftSpy SE
... among others.

Whatever you choose, try more than one.

HiJackThis, if you know what you are doing. Accompanied by others, of course.

HijackThis is best.

Run a log, and run it through hijackthis.de, if you're unsure of files, search on google to see if they're malware or such.

HijackThis targets only browser hijacking methods, not trojans or viruses. Read its FAQ at: http://www.merijn.org/faq.html#hijackthis2

Run HijackThis (http://216.180.233.162/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe) and click Do a system scan and save a log file
Your HijackThis log will open in Notepad. Post the contents of the log here

For beginners try the Microsoft Spyware program. It's quite simple and keeps its self up pretty much, doing system scans on its own and updating on its own. So if you are a beginner it should be the way to go, however its not 100% effective all the time and can miss some things..

So then I'd go forward to HijackThis and get someone who knows what they are doing to help you, like someone on these forums :)

I am an adaware fan myself but then again I never do run spyware scans on my own system.

Just try linux. :)

eWido hands down.. not even a contest. Best combination for total security is Kaspersky Anti-Virus + eWido.

I like to use a combination of Symantec Antivirus Corp, Spybot, and Windows Defender. Those usually do the job. Ewido and Security Task Manager works well too.

I use
spywareblaster - FREE
Ad-aware SE - FREE
Spybot search and destroy - FREE
Do the job very well oh and did I mention they are FREE...:)
I wouldn't use hi-jack this for spyware as our friend said this is more for browser hi-jacks and you can do serious damage if you are not sure what you are doing..;)

HijackThis is used for finding spyware that adaware, spybot, etc., are not able to remove by themselves.
