View Full Version : Registerfly is a group of thieves!

Here is my domain saga with the thieves at Registerfly.

Domain Saga I
I have been a customer of Registerfly since 2001 and at one point had over 1,100 domains with them. Since 2004 their technical support has steadily degraded to the current point where it cannot handle ANY issues competently.

Recently I ordered the renewal of the below listed domains on my eugenie98 account at the end of January (while the domains were in their grace period) and registerfly.com charged my credit card for the renewals and listed them as renewed in my account. Lo and behold, two months later go to my account page to push the domains as a result of a portfolio sale and am given an error. I check the WHOIS and find that the 21 domains were in fact not renewed and someone else poached most of them. So, as a result of registerfly's incompetence most of my domains were poached, including domains which I had sold and then couldn't provide. Luckily none of the people who were buying the domains sued me. I still lost over $5,000 in sales (for example archfund.com was being sold to a private equity group for $3,200) because of Registerfly's false renewals of my domains. At worst they should have told me the domains were not in grace period (but they all were) and that I could pay a redemption fee, but because they listed the domains as renewed, charged my credit card for the renewals, and had listed the below expiration dates in my account management page I had no idea they were no longer current!

Even with all of the problems they created through their false renewals they have had the gall to not refund me for those 21 domain renewals which I had paid by credit card. The first time I spoke to a representative she insisted I had never been charged. When I told support to look at accounting and clearly see that it lists my credit card as being charged for the domains I was met with silence. That support ticket was filed July 11th and still hasn't been responded to.

Domain Saga II and III

Move onto two additional issues that have started more recently.

Saga II
Multiple domains of mine are in limbo land, they were renewed at my request but then the WHOIS details were changed to REGISTERFLY.COM's name, not my name, and some are no longer in my account. The customer support rep closes the tickets pertaining to this issue without responding.

These domains were in my eugenie98 account
bargainmotels.com
spicytoy.com
tigertablet.com
rentalcamper.com

Another domain has my correct WHOIS info and the proper DNS information but has vaporized from my eugenie98 registerfly account
smarfranchise.net

Saga III
Other domains are in my account and are renewed but are listed in the domain management page as having last year's registration so I cannot park them or use them at all, costing me significant parking revenue. The support techs are incompetent when I ask them to correct the dates for the following domains:

eugenie98 account
extraloan.com was renewed and now expires on 07-20-2007 (see WHOIS) not 07-20-2006 as listed in the registerfly.com management page!

guidenyc.com was renewed and now expires on 07-20-2007 (see WHOIS) not 07-20-2006 as listed in the registerfly.com management page!

nameventure.com was renewed and now expires on 06-30-2007 (see WHOIS) not 06-30-2006 as listed in the registerfly.com management page AND the WHOIS should be in MY NAME not RegisterFly's since I have not ordered any protectfly services for this domain

realpayments.com expires on 07-03-2007 (see WHOIS) not 07-03-2006 as listed in the registerfly.com management page and WHOIS should be in MY NAME not RegisterFly's since I have not ordered any protectfly services for this domain

sonicdomains.com expires on 07-12-2007 (see WHOIS) not 07-12-2006 as listed in the registerfly.com management page

worldcigs.com expires on 06-26-2007 not 06-26-2006 as listed in the registerfly.com management page and WHOIS should be in MY NAME not RegisterFly's since I have not ordered any protectfly services for this domain

floridanissan account
floridanissan.com expires on 04-25-2007 (see WHOIS) not 04-25-2006 as listed in the registerfly.com management page

jj-paintball account
One of the domains I have sold and pushed to a subaccount in preparation to transfer the domain to the new owner is jj-paintballguns in my jj-paintball registerfly account. It is set to expire in 2007 (do a whois lookup). I told the support rep that I had renewed the domain and that it had succesfully renewed but that the domain management page has it listed as expiring in 2006, which is preventing me from using the domain for parking or development or to push to the buyers new account. The tech told me the domain was expired and in extended RGP status. CLEARLY A WHOIS LOOKUP SHOWS I HAVE RENEWED JJ-PAINTBALLGUNS.COM AND IT IS NOT IN EXTENDED RGP STATUS. Does the tech not know how to do the absolute most basic action in domain support?

I am furious at the technical support groups incompetence which is jeopardizing my domain sale and the fact that they have stolen the fee for the 21 domain renewals since those renewals were not provided, it has been over three months since I requested refund and I was even amenable to store credit (quickcheckout balance) rather than a monetary refund but I have not received a response!

Suffice it to say if Registerfly.com does not at least credit me the 21 false domain renewals (which is still ripoff since I can pay $6.75 per domain at Fabulous rather than $8.99 at Registerfly), and does not resolve these issues I will transfer out all my remaining domains and will never ever use RegisterFly again.

I tried and sue them for making them loose profits if its possible. I feel bad for you man, you lost of bundle because of them. I think registerfly is a member on wht and you should try and contact them, they seem to be much better at responding to support questions. Good luck and i hope it never happens again.

Thanks for the advice frostbite. I have a little faith that if that Registerfly tech knows how to use WHT he'll be able to resolve the above issues
Update:

In addition to the above issues let me add the following which the buyer of my domains and myself have brought up with Registerfly support chat and for which I get no satisfactory response:

Account: harrypotter2
Domain: harrypotterlive.com
Problem: Get failed renewal every time I pay for a renewal
Tech says: Working on it
Has been saying this for a week now. Soon harrypotterlive.com will go into redemption.

Account: mikeknight
Domain: mikeknighten.com
Problem: Get failed renewal every time I pay for a renewal
Tech says: Working on it
Has been saying this for a week now. Soon mikeknighten.com will go into redemption.

Account: technikg
Domain: technikgroup.com
Problem: Get failed renewal every time I pay for a renewal
Tech says: Working on it
Has been saying this for a week now. Soon technikgroup.com will go into redemption.

Account: vavid
Domain: vavid.com
Problem: Get failed renewal every time I pay for a renewal
Tech says: Working on it
Has been saying this for a week now. Soon vavid.com will go into redemption.

Account: hostbegin
Domain: hostbegin.com
Problem: Get failed renewal every time I pay for a renewal
Tech says: Working on it
Has been saying this for a week now. Soon hostbegin.com will go into redemption.

Account: bondbrain
Domain: bondbrain.com
Problem: Get failed renewal every time I pay for a renewal
Tech says: Working on it
Has been saying this for a week now. Soon bondbrain.com will go into redemption.

I'm sorry to hear about your tales of woe, eugene. It's only what we've been seeing at WHT for six months or more. The general peceived wisdom here has been to transfer your domains away from Registerfly BEFORE they expire. 1 month before. You should PM the Registerfly representative (Regfly) here to see what he can do.

Din't know they were that bad, I know a few people with 300+ domain name on them.

Boy, that's bad. I support stu2's advice to contact WHT member Regfly via PM. He helped me with a situation that was nowhere near as large but had some common characteristics as yours.

Are you in a position to get legal advice?

"The first time I spoke to a representative she insisted I had never been charged. When I told support to look at accounting and clearly see that it lists my credit card as being charged for the domains I was met with silence."

You must have talked to the same support person I did, I went through the same thing not to mention being put onhold for 30 minutes and no resolution.

Regfly was able to straighten it out, what if he wasn't around? I shudder to think of it.

After a couple years of this kind of stuff, I've just recently started to transfer away months ahead of renewal and have already moved 60% of domains away.

Who knows what fiasco will happen next with them?.

I could pursue the case in small claims courts and I will probably do so if the current issues are not resolved.

I mean domain hijacking (i.e. Registerfly placing domains in their name without my permission), stealing funds from customers, false advertising, the list goes on and on.

However, the current transaction that I need to complete with the above set of domains is worth nearly $4,000, and I do not want to jeopardize that. Also, the time and headache of a suit is probably not worth whatever I can expect to win in small claims court.

I tried convincing my business partner to move everything to Fabulous a couple years ago. Boy I wish I had gone ahead and done that, never ever had a problem with Fabulous as my registrar ($6.75 per domain!).

We use the URIBL list to protect our mail servers from spam at my rather tiny hosting company. Of the domains listed as sources of spam, over 99% of the registerfly domains are spam related. And this is in the tens of thousands per month. When we attempt to contact registerfly regarding the spam, complaints, much like support requests, are ignored. There are hosting companies now blanket blocking email from registerfly domains because of their blatant support of spam. This includes their spamfly (how fitting) and protectfly outfits as well. It's nice that RegFly can fix things. However, one good samaritan does not fix a neighborhood of thieves and scammers.
