I don't know anything about searchstar. but I can tell you that smartsearch is a textfile database.

by converting the code into php and mysql you could get a huge performance boost and scaleability.

you mean you could generate 100 different searches and 100 search results in the time it takes for smartsearch to search 1 term and report 100 result :D

well I don't think the ratio is 100 to 1 but I would not be surprise to see 10, 20 or even 30 to 1. because of going from flat file to mysql.

Well, 100-to-1 is just an estimate. I'll see what
we can do about a scientific test of the speed of
both products, however I am very sure that we are
at least several times faster than them.

Yes. Major ones are E-mailed to all registered clients within 48 hours of release, and minor ones are availible in the sites member area or on request.
