Dear all i have a Raq 550 server nothing unusuall on it.

Because we are in Africa and bandwidth is expensive we had to relay all our outgoing e-mails through our ISP because for them Bandwidth is not a constraint.

Untill recently everything was working out fine. Initially i setup my isps servers as smart relay for my server and they did allow me to send out e-mails. Now they had to make some changes on that server and they need me to put up a username and password on the server for me to relay my e-mails.

Unfortunately there is no such option on the cobalt gui. I went through alot of options like changing the cobalt.cf file and adding the feature and stuff, but that doesnt help as that smtp feature isnt available on that raq server.

Can someone help urgently and shine some light on this matter.

Thanking you in advance.

I'm not too sure I understand this totally, you are where? and the server is where?

Where are your outoing e-mails currently going to (your ISP or your RAQ?)
Where would you like them to go?

Hi Dan,

The situation is like this. I have my clients who are connected on the same network as the Raq server. They send and receive to the Raq server without a problem.

We have a restriction on the bandwidth that is the reason as to why i need to relay all my e-mails though the ISP. Because they have an unlimited bandwidth on their servers hence it is more quicker and easier to send out e-mails.

When i send out e-mails they go to my raq server where they get scanned by mail scanner and then they get dilivered to the ISP server. The problem comes whereby the ISP has enabled authentication on they smtp servers whereby no one is allowed to relay their e-mails through that server without providing a username and password.

I can configure the smart relay option, the e-mails go to the isp server but bounce back because there is no username and password from my server. Hence this is basically what the problem is.

I want to setup an option whereby there is smtp authentication on the smart relay services.

I hope i have answered your question correctly this time.

I suppose you have many clients?..
They could of course change their Outgoing mailserver to your ISP's and send
the login information from their email-clients.
I'm not sure how you would do this on the server level, though.

Isn't it possible for your ISP to grant your IP access to their SMTP without L/P?

As ironfist mentioned, your ISP should relay mail from your network without requiring authentication for each one. The no-relay config on their server should be used for individual users who are connecting from various IPs; you are coming from a known IP on their own network, so they should not have a problem forwarding your mail... if they do, you may want to investigate a new ISP.

I'm not sure there is a good way to pass all mail sending usernames and passwords through to the ISP server if they won't alter their requirements...
