Looking at surrenderonline, voxtreme, pixelseven, mchost.
I am really "wanting" to use a chat program like phplivesupport (other sug's OR info from users) vs. an outsourced reoccuring & overpriced options such as humanclick, livehelper, etc.
According to mchost's TOS, they don't allow chat scripts at all. That's too bad cause they were my first choice.
Any opinions on any of this is MUCHO appreciated-o.

Have you emailed their sales crew and asked them? I think they allow phplivesupport. Not 100% sure though. But make sure you ask them before ruling them out. :)

clarify that with MChost on that because I think what that means they don't allow things like IRC chat programs that are resource hogs. I think they will allow you to use a support chat program like ones you mentioned.

In our case, by chat scripts we are referring to IRC, we have no problems with the kind of script you mentioned. I'm pretty sure this is the case with others too.

Live support is fine :) (We installed one ourselves tonight to check the CPU/memory usage, etc.) Just no chat scripts as in IRC or web-based chatrooms.

Your final list of the four hosting companies above is a wisely made one! Seems you spent a lot of time researching this forum!
You'd be safe with either of them in my personal opinion. I'd suggest emailing each one of them with your exact requirements and doubts before you actually sign up.

Well, I went with mchost for a number of reasons.
1) larger company
2) large user base
3) active user base on their forums
I took out pixelseven first. This was due to a couple of reasons:
although their flash banner is pretty cool.. they had some content issues. A lot was "still to come" & "under construction". They even have broken links once you enter into their faq section you can't get back out without manually typing their domain again.. it is an easy mistake to make.. but not very professional. Also they seem to be a "newer" hosting company, and I had issues with people bringing up in another thread that their site was hosted with mchost and had autoreply e-mails coming from their servers.
After that was surrenderonline, then voxextreme. Surrenderonline's plan's disk space/transfer was a little lower than the others, i think.
Vox didn't have much as far as content goes on their site either.
I mean as a avid websurfer, I'm glad I found this forum. Otherwise I would have made a hasty decision (like I have MANY times in the past). Anyway, I just wanted to share who I went with and hope that now that they're moving their resellers to DV2 datacenter uptime will be better.
Anyway, at the last minute I also was looking at splashhost being located in dallas means it is just a day's drive from where I'm at if I need to be physically threatening! :D
Anyway, I hope I find the service reliable! Good luck to all you others who are reading this to make up your own minds. Peace.

edit: well correction splashhost is in UK but (i believe) their servers are colocated in a datacenter near/in Dallas.
