MadSkilage 06-03-2002, 10:14 PM Finally! 3.1 sounds pretty cool. Not only does it have the long awaited reseller capabilites, but it also supports skinning. Too bad the upgrade script for 3.0 -> 3.1 doesn't come out for a couple of weeks :(
If you want to check out a static demo, here's an ftp you can download them from:
ftp://ftp.ensim.com/download/webppliance/linux/demo/
JBIZ718 06-03-2002, 11:30 PM Ive been playing with ensim 3.1 and its cool, i Think the only real fault is that u cant store IP address alias
I think thats a key as a system admin less work, store the ips and your done.
But it is very quick and very stable
Good Work Ensim

Hey Joe,
Just curious. Do you know if CPanel/WHM can store IP address aliases?
JBIZ718 06-04-2002, 11:41 AM Not a big cpanel user
Cant answer that
Joe

Does anyone now what the login info is for the downloaded demos?

Yes it can :)
Everyday 06-04-2002, 03:20 PM And of course in their infinite wisdom they release a new version but do not have any upgrade scripts available for the previous version. Once again Ensim has screwed its current customers in favor of selling new licenses.
Nice job Ensim.
MadSkilage 06-04-2002, 04:54 PM The upgrade script has been slated for release in a couple of weeks. I'll admit I was a little dissapointed at first, but at least they have released a product.
Would you rather be left in the dark while they hammer out an upgrade script, or at least have a preview of what will be a solid product? I know that I'm really glad that this release didn't get dragged out too much, like a certain control panel that will remain nameless.
Everyday 06-04-2002, 05:24 PM It still screws the current customers though. If anything they should make the new and upgradable version available at the same time.
I still have some version 2.4 servers that I can't upgrade because of some internal problems with the migration. Thats a bit crazy don't you think?

What is the issue. We are set to work with Mike S. soon on this. Not looking forward to it if there are screw ups upon migration.
Everyday 06-04-2002, 06:31 PM Apparently ensim does not take well to some new folder structuring going from red hat 6.x to 7.x
I'm under the understanding that the migration does not work well at all and that people who have done it have just given up and switched back.
UmBillyCord 06-04-2002, 06:41 PM I just hope they stick with a file structure. I would hate to see new dirs when 4.0 comes out next month.
The "next month" part was a joke. :)
Everyday 06-04-2002, 06:47 PM Its somewhat ridiculous really. They are pumping this control panel real hard to everyone and the funniest part is that unless you are using the serverxchange version you can't upgrade to the newer versions. I'm not sure if they mean from 3.0 to 3.1 or if they mean 3.x to 4.x.
That and the fact that they are about 8 to 12 months behind in getting customers what development tools they require in the panel are my only main beefs with ensim.
Tazzman 06-05-2002, 11:17 AM No update script yet :(
New version looks cool though, and it gives me an excuse to switch to Redhat 7.2, so I'll just backup everything and request a fresh OS install... no biggie...
Everyday 06-05-2002, 11:27 AM I'm told that won't work Tazz.
Tazzman 06-05-2002, 01:43 PM Why not?
I have 2 40 GIG drives in my server, one I had installed last week for keeping database backup etc. So I'll just SSH into the server, back up all site files and mySQL databases to the second drive and then have the main drive reformatted and Redhat 7.2 installed on it. Install LS 3.1 and set up all the sites again and then transfer all the sites data back into the right folders and import the mySQL database backups from the second drive.
I don't see why this shouldn't work. Sure, it's going to take quite a bit of time, but seeing as I'm not a hosting business, it doesn't really matter to me. I host selected sites for free and I'm sure they're willing to suffer a few hours of downtime while I upgrade the server. It's not like I give them an uptime guarantee or anything... Anyway, I'll do this late morning/early afternoon European time on a week day, so it's early hours of the morning in the US. Shouldn't bother too many people then anyway.
I'll shoot off an email to the people on my server to warn them they may want to make their own backups, just in case.

The problem with that is after a certain date, they are refusing to offer support for the old version.
On a side note (the original intention of this thread), I did sit in on the "pre-demo" of the new WEBpliance 3.1, and am very excited about the new Reseller Administrator and new skins.
