No not a real life security guy :stickout: I know most of you guys are probably too scrawny and geeky and uncoordinated to do that. But it's ok, so am I. :dunce:

Anyway, I'm looking for someone who has a pretty good amount of experience in running a linux server remotely. Here's the stuff you'll do:

-Regular stuff - Managing DNS entries, creating virtual hosts, user accounts, log files, etc.. Stuff that I could do myself.. (I'll try to help you when I have time)
-Install some extra's like http-analyze. Maybe create cron jobs.
-Keep the important software updated.. php, mysql, apache, linux..
-You also need to be able to plug security holes and basically do a best-effort job to keep hackers away. I know this is pretty impossible, which is why i'm saying "best effort job".
-Create backups; Prompt Recovery/Response for when we get hacked.
-Call the webhost for when we need reboots :)

Good english and friendly attitude are a plus. We'll almost always communicate over the internet, so it shouldn't be too hard to fake friendliness ;) But in case of emergency's, I might have to call you. Good morals please.. :D

It would also be VERY preferable if you were pretty fluent in php / mysql so you could spot security holes in our code. (if you're really good, i might have an additional contract-based job for you too)

Some details about the server:
Well, it'll host 1 really big site... that gets maybe 5-10 million pageviews a month, average? I've created sites that get around 1 million, so my estimates shouldn't be too off. It may host a couple other domains... but no more than 5, and I don't think the smaller sites will cause much of a problem. I'm just worried about the 5-10 million pageview site getting hacked =) It's a community-oriented site, but not just a simple forum if that's what you're thinking.

So yea,.. you'll only need to be managing a maximum of 5 domains,.. I don't think it'll be that big of a job. You'll mostly be doing 3 things: security, backups, and making sure it's up and running :homer:

Another thing - I'm thinking of getting this server on rackshack. Which means you better know what you're doing. :D Which is why i'm hiring you in the first place, I suppose :D

So how much will I pay you? Well... I don't know what would be reasonable... But I don't think I could spare more than $400/mo. I had a couple very good server admins in the past that did the same job for free,.. as a hobby, I guess? Heh.

Please email me or reply to this thread with your AIM sn and I will get back to you as soon as possible, thanks.

This should probably go into the "Suggestions and Feedback" forum. But my guess is that they do not serve any real purpose. "I've e-mailed/PM'd you" doesn't add to the conversation, and no doubt the original poster is aware that they have been e-mailed or pm'd.

My personal view is that it bugs me -- especially in cases like this -- because I openedd the thread expecting to find some real comments and instead it is just multiple PM messages.

Think of them like "me too" posts.
