I'm confused as to all the Authorize.net resellers. Do they all provide basically the same service, with the same control panel and features (basically reselling)? Or does each reseller offer their own value added service such as control panel features?

Also, besides authorize.net, what other major merchant account providers are there?

Authorize.net has many levels of resellers. The most common and most basic ones litterally resell the authorize.net services as is. These people may offer some extras but thats up to them to do on their site.

High level "partners" and "corperate" resellers do have a bit more control and some even use different companies for different asspects of the system but in the end, they are all selling the authorize.net gateway.

Thanks. That's what I had guessed.

Now, I'm looking at this site www.totalmerchantservices.com. Are these guys reputable?

If they are just reselling the gateway, exactly what are they doing other than selling it initially to me? Customer service only?

Speaking of totalmerchantservices, I called their number 888-848-6825 earlier today and guess what? I got a number disconnected message. I guess someone there forgot to pay their phone bills?

Hmmm, worked for me today. They got my Amex going today. And I believe that merchantsaccounts4less is a reseller for total merchant services

Check out http://www.e-onlinedata.com. We currently use them for Authorize.Net based charging and have had a very good experience. They also have a value added reseller program allowing you to sell merchant accounts to your clients.

Ya auth.net only works through resellers; i suppose to avoid the kind of problems Apple had when they decide to try direct sales - it pissed off a lot of partners.

Anyway I think there's little difference between most resellers, however, I do believe that auth.net has several different kinds of merchant account/gateway offerings, so resellers may appear to differ based on which offering they are signed up to resell.

I believe the one we use is one of the cheapest; probably because it has some small limitations.. ie it only works for credit cards from certain countries, such as USA, Germany, Japan, Canada, etc...
