I needed to restart httpd and when I did, I get these messages:
[root /etc]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd restart

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd: applelaptopbattery.com: command not found

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd: bkup: command not found

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd: [: =: unary operator expected

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd: applelaptopbattery.com: command not found

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd: bkup: command not found

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd: [: =: unary operator expected

Shutting down Web Service:

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd: applelaptopbattery.com: command not found

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd: bkup: command not found

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd: [: =: unary operator expected

Setting up Web Service: chiliasp: module started, version 3.5.2.31

/usr/sbin/httpd

[root /etc]#

I looked at the LCD panel and it shows none on the top line, instead of the name. It does show the proper ip address and when I check the network configuration, it shows the ip address, subnet mask, and gateway with the proper addresses. I then telnetted into the server, ssh did not work and it was working, and checked the hosts file. It had two entries in it for main interface. I removed one and restarted the server. I still cannot access the server via the admin or siteadmin pages. I can ping the ip address and the domain name, but I cannot administer it.

I checked the emails and I saw that I received three emails to admin:

is your hostname in /etc/hosts?

Yes. I checked it and that is where I saw the double entry for the host name. There was the original line of 127.0 and the original host name. There was a third line, with the host that was prefixed with 'none'. I deleted this and rebooted the server. When this did not work, I then tried to restart httpd and admserv and got those error messages.

I then ran the following commands:

[root /]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd status

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd: applelaptopbattery.com: command not found

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd: bkup: command not found

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd: [: =: unary operator expected

httpd dead but subsys locked

[root /]#

[root /]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd status

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd: applelaptopbattery.com: command not found

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd: bkup: command not found

/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd: [: =: unary operator expected

httpd dead but subsys locked

[root /]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail status

/etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail: applelaptopbattery.com: command not found

/etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail: bkup: command not found

/etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail: [: =: unary operator expected

sendmail (pid 474) is running...

[root /]#

[root /]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/inet status

/etc/rc.d/init.d/inet: applelaptopbattery.com: command not found

/etc/rc.d/init.d/inet: bkup: command not found

/etc/rc.d/init.d/inet: [: =: unary operator expected

Looks like your conf file is missing the start of the line, or you stuck a linebreak in on accident, so it is treating the hostname as a command instead of a value.

The info that you gave me did not correct the problem. I think that I have discovered the problem.

It appears that somehow, the directory for the original host name was changed to (none).domain.name. When I try to change it back via mv, I get an error message:

sh: syntax error near unexpected token `(none)'

So I am going to try to just do a cp. However, isn't home symlinked to the site?

sorry to dig up an old thread but had a similar problem today ...

the key is the unary operator issue - it *probably* means the progresql db isn't running

this can stop is you run out of room on the / (hda1) partition and starts to b0rk files ...

if you su-
/etc/rc.d/init.d/progresql status
and it doesnt say running , then try and start it
if it wont start look for the following 3 files ...

ls -l /usr/bin/postmaster
ls -l /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions
ls -l /etc/sysconfig/network

if they're missing of 0 bytes in size, progresql wont start and it leads to the *exact* problem you detailed above :)
