Sometimes, your server stops working so bad that you can't even telnet in. Instead of having someone go into the colo and console in. What devices do you guys use to do it remotely?

before u even think of a console server, u need a server that supports bios redirect over serial, which at this time, prety much only intel servers support

u can also buy a APC switch to reboot the machine remotely, just be sure your BIOS supports such feature (IE: after power failure turn machine ON/OFF/DEFAULT)

You can also check out Digital V6's Kaveman KVM over IP solutions. They are not that expensive and are pretty nice :)

I have a APC switch. For some weird reason all my cgi scripts are not working. Plesk seems to be dead and I can't telnet or ssh in. I can only ftp in right now.

I don't think it is on their site but the units are just under $4,000.00

$4000 for 8 servers is not that cheap. Would be cool if it could do 24 or 48 for $4000.

Actually you can hook up multiple KVMs to the Kaveman and have up to something like 128 servers under KVM over IP. It's real steal compared to what other systems are out.

Connecting 128 servers to it at once sounds like a ton of wiring but great for what I need. The less on site work the better. I have to pay the consultant just for the trip to the colo =/

In the IT Magazine I read, there's regularly an ad of Cyclades, for their terminal servers (http://www.cyclades.com/products/stdalone/ts1_2000.php) which appear to be for just that: remote shell access.
