Sometimes, your server stops working so bad that you can't even telnet in. Instead of having someone go into the colo and console in. What devices do you guys use to do it remotely?

AlaskanWolf 06-03-2002, 06:26 PM before u even think of a console server, u need a server that supports bios redirect over serial, which at this time, prety much only intel servers support AlaskanWolf 06-03-2002, 06:27 PM u can also buy a APC switch to reboot the machine remotely, just be sure your BIOS supports such feature (IE: after power failure turn machine ON/OFF/DEFAULT) RackMy.com 06-03-2002, 06:31 PM You can also check out Digital V6's Kaveman KVM over IP solutions. They are not that expensive and are pretty nice :) http://www.digitalv6.com/ ClusterMania 06-03-2002, 06:33 PM Originally posted by AlaskanWolf u can also buy a APC switch to reboot the machine remotely, just be sure your BIOS supports such feature (IE: after power failure turn machine ON/OFF/DEFAULT) I have a APC switch. For some weird reason all my cgi scripts are not working. Plesk seems to be dead and I can't telnet or ssh in. I can only ftp in right now. dektong 06-03-2002, 06:55 PM Originally posted by RackMy.com You can also check out Digital V6's Kaveman KVM over IP solutions. Just wonderring, how much is this unit? cheers, RackMy.com 06-03-2002, 08:13 PM I don't think it is on their site but the units are just under $4,000.00 ClusterMania 06-03-2002, 08:17 PM $4000 for 8 servers is not that cheap. Would be cool if it could do 24 or 48 for $4000. Found these but not sure if they are the same thing http://baytech.net:8080/rsm.shtml RackMy.com 06-03-2002, 10:03 PM Actually you can hook up multiple KVMs to the Kaveman and have up to something like 128 servers under KVM over IP. It's real steal compared to what other systems are out. http://baytech.net:8080/rsm.shtmlThat is just a remote power system with console, not KVM. marksy 06-04-2002, 01:06 AM If I can save at least one other soul the trouble - KVM is keyboard, video, mouse....I was clueless way back when and had to ask at a tradeshow - actually, I'm still clueless, but I do know KVM. Connecting 128 servers to it at once sounds like a ton of wiring but great for what I need. The less on site work the better. I have to pay the consultant just for the trip to the colo =/ ClusterMania 06-06-2002, 05:46 AM http://www.computone.com/Products/RAS.html Is the The IntelliServer® RAS 2000 the same thing? RackMy.com 06-06-2002, 06:17 AM The RAS 2000 simultaneously functions as a remote access server, a terminal server, a printer server, a Windows NT RAS server, a POS server and an Out-of-Band console management server.Nope ClusterMania 06-06-2002, 10:34 PM http://www.digitalv6.com/ How much are the parts for connecting everyone of my servers to this device? ClusterMania 06-11-2002, 04:04 AM Finally found a review on a remote console access product http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=6118&mode=thread&order=0 astralexis 06-11-2002, 08:05 AM In the IT Magazine I read, there's regularly an ad of Cyclades, for their terminal servers (http://www.cyclades.com/products/stdalone/ts1_2000.php) which appear to be for just that: remote shell access. |
