just got back from a weekend party with some old friends and the topic of sponsorship and advertising cropped up. im of the school that pays no attention to brand advertising. i wont smoke cos marlboro sponsored mclaren (even if senna was a hero of mine) nor would i smoke JPS or lucky strike or whatever, nor would i pick vodafone or shell etc, the only thing about advertising that i do take notice of is the new product \ price change things. you know the actual making you aware of a new fact factor.
so how much does advertising affect you? and what type in what way? feel free to discuss :)

The aim of sponsorships is not to make you buy something. The aim is to make their name familiar with you. One day, if you are looking to buy something and you are stuck between two brands, you will buy the one more familiar to you.

No it dosen't sway me one bit.

I think advertising is aimed at the younger crowed, who then bug the hell out of ya untill you by them the Blasted thing LOL

heh thanks for the replies. it amuses me the amount of money some people pay to put their names on things :) but yeah i guess the point is getting your name out there. theyre going to ban cigarette advertising in europe soon. i dont see it makes any difference, its a shame F1 will have less money. i know for one im not going to smoke, and whatever team carrying whatever fag brand wont sway me lol. nice of them to spend billions trying tho. im indebted to them for paying drivers wages:)
