I have a few domain names registered with 1and1.co.uk.

I sold some to a friend and now want to transfer them to him.
The problem is, he doen not have a 1and1 account.
Anyone know how to get him an account and transfer the domains?

I have contacted 1and1 asking them how to it but I thought I would ask here as well as they take a while to reply.

Also, anyone know if there are any costs involved considering the fact that it will still stay with 1and 1 but only change the registrant details

First, let's make clear you're using the right terminology:

Transfer = domain transfer to another registrar. Paid service. Adds 1 year to expiration date.

Push = change of ownership within the same registrar. Usually free. Doesn't add years to expiration.

So. Are you talking about push or transfer?

Oh, then I mean 'Push'. But my friend doesn't have an account with 1&1 yet.

1&1 don't allow free pushes. They charge $5.99 to push a domain to another account. He would be better off signing up with another registrar and requesting a transfer. You would need to read up about transfer at 1&1 because from other messages on this forum; it's not easy.

They charge $5.99 to push a domain to another account. That's not quite correct. To my knowledge, 1&1 resets a domain's billing cycle when it's moved to a different account. So the "charge" depends on how long it has been since the domain was last billed for. Last I checked, regardless of when a domain is actually renewed, 1&1 charges their annual fee, starting from the day the domain first appeared in an account.
