View Full Version : admins?
ok well
Chicken, BC, kunal, Matt, teck, xtstrike, and webdev are all admins but they have a mod title, why? to hide that they are admins?
richy 06-03-2002, 07:42 AM not at all. i think the reason is they want one. it clearly says all over the place who the admins are.
richy 06-03-2002, 07:52 AM front page under wht team. and on some forum pages at the top under the hierarchy.
that says they are mods, but they are admins - they have admin control panel access, ect

that says they are mods, but they are admins - they have admin control panel access, ect So what? And who says they aren't "moderators?" They can call themselves anything they want to, using any titles that they board's management wants to use. Just because the software uses different titles to define different access levels doesn't obligate anyone to call themselves by those names.
But yeah, maybe it is a big conspiracy. They've been trying to hide the earthshaking truth that they have access to the admin control panel.

As you said, everyone has access to the cp. This isn't something hidden, however no, it doesn't say:
Access To CP: Chicken, BC, kunal, Matt, teck, xtstrike, and webdev
While everyone having access to the forum might not be typcial (I'm guessing you are getting this from FWS), it is just for convenience and it works here.
There's no hiding anything (I'm sometimes amazed at the things people come up with around here). To me, the forum 'admin' controls the site (look, templates, etc.), the db (maintain and fix), heads the mods, etc. I don't do any of that.
Anywhooo...
no, i didnt get it from FWS.net

hmm..so where do you get it from, neptune?;)
www.webhostingtalk.com/showgroups.php
If you ask me, it's a bit of a storm in a teacup... Doesn't make any difference to us at all. Mods, admins, whatever...
i was just curious, no hurt to ask
XTStrike 06-04-2002, 04:59 AM CP Access is restricted in certain ways to moderators, for example, a moderator could not go in and change the look of the forum in any way.
The reason for CP access is to allow us to effectively moderate the forum, if a user is spamming the forum we will use the CP to gain important information on the person. Anybody that moderates a forum will know what you can achieve from looking at the CP and history of a user. (Please be adivsed we will NEVER EVER view a users Private Messages, they are private no matter what offence they commit, we will never view them and they will never be disclosed)
I personally do not see a problem, I truly believe we were all chosen as moderators for our level of committment to the forum and because we are believed to represent the best interests of the forum.
It involves a great level of trust moderating a forum of this size, I mean literally any moderator could almost single handedly wipe out the forum.
The main reason we are here is to serve the majority of the forum and to serve their best interests, if you feel we are not doing this and that we are abusing our rights as moderators or "admins" then tell us, dont simply question our right to access the admins control panel.
I hope this helps to clear things up a little.
