Has webhostingtalk.com changed the dns on it's domain
record from dns.usnuk.net / dns2usnuk.net to
ns1.dn.net / ns2dn.net back to
dns.usnuk.net / dns2usnuk.net to
NS3.WIZARDSHOSTING.COM / NS4.WIZARDSHOSTING.COM
all in just one week ? I wonder if that is some kind of a
record.

Would the administrators of webhostingtalk.com care to
share any information on today's hosting change with ALL of
the members ?

Well, they moved from Ultraspeed to a server at Digital Nation (the NT nightmare :)) and then back to Ultraspeed again. As for the last change to wizardshosting, I'm not sure. Maybe they decided to host it with Carlos.

The only reason that these DNS changes are important is
because much of the info and opinion at this site is about
choosing a web host. My strong opinion is that all hosting
change decisions for this site should be announced in
advance to ALL members of webhostingtalk.com . This simple
policy to preserve the credibility of those who manage this
site has still not been implemented and practiced.

Yellowed, this forum isn't here to discuss what host the owner of the board chooses. It is to discuss what host is right for the members of this forum and for hosts to discuss various issues.

Although I wasn't personally involved in the decisions of where this board moved to (and moved to, and moved to, heh), I don't feel that it *must* be up for discussion. Ultimately there is one person who decides things such as this.

I think Carlos is a swell guy (sounds so 50's, Leave it to Beaver?), and this should be good for the board. I don't base my recommendations on where the board is hosted or any outside influenences. I just tell it like it is, just as anyone else would.

I'm sure we all hope it will stay put for a bit (stay- good boyyyyyy), but if the owner feels it should move for any reason, then it will most likely move. I'm not sure advance notice is always possible, nor needed.

In other words, the owner of the board reads this board too... and picked the host that he felt was right right for him. :)

You decided not to go with the dedicated server from http://www.racklocation.com ? Oh well, it was nice enough of them to offer it to WHT.

I believe priority was given to those who generously offered the first time. We had quite a few offers which was really great! I don't think it made the choice easy. Without naming the hosts who offered, I'd like to thank all of them (you know who you are) for your generosity...

Actually I think it should be. It'd be nice if we could be told where it is so that we could get a feel for things... In fact (though it'd be quite the hassle) the board should move around from time to time. That way we can all get an idea of how hosts are in terms of speed and such.

If we were to all know that next month X will be hosting the forum if say the forum was very slow to use then it would be a good indication of what to expect of the host. And on the otherside if it was really fast and running great it'd be a way to know that host X was one that is worth looking at.

Anyhoo just my thoughts on the thing :)

Well, the current host tends to be listed at the bottom of the forum, so it's not hard to tell where the board is hosted. My personal opinion is that it's up to Matt to decide where the board will be hosted and it's really no one elses business one way or another as to why he moves it.

Just my $0.02 on the issue.

Somehow, I don't think that would go over that well, heh. I think Matt is a bit more grey than he was before.

Banner- it's not that anyone's trying to hide anything, just that we (at least I), don't always know exactly what's up. Anyway, I hope it stays put for a bit since the last couple of weeks haven't been fun regardless of the reasons, etc. Board has been *much* better now, and that's all I care about :)

Chicken - I wasn't trying to imply that anyone was hiding anything. I just don't agree with the people who think that Matt must tell them when the board is moving and why. If he wants to move the board, it's up to him. I trust his judgement and know that he'll do what's best for the board. As for the mods not always knowing what's up, I understand completely. It's not your job to know everything. Just almost everything :)

Chris

Edit:

I just want to add that every move (except for the one to NT) has been an improvement over the previous location, for whatever reason.

Ohhhh I know, and I agree, the NT move didn't turn out all that well, heh. I've only gotten one error since the move (which will be looked at), but otherwise, smooth sailing.

Ok, now I'm really late for work... *poof*
