We are looking for a new managed dedicated server. Can anyone recommend a good host.

We would like to stay under $200

Do you have a preferred type of bandwidth? Premium vs. not so premium? Location as well? Quite a few providers in the offers forum that you can research.

Find 4-6 that fit your budget, type their names into the search engine on WHT and start reading!

As others have said there are many. If you have a specific location or DC in mind, we can direct you appropriately.

We would like the server to be located on the east cost.

Liquidweb is a great company, managed when you add cpanel on, good network, etc. Definitely recommended.

The main difference is latency. Standard bandwidth provides excellent latency, the Premium bandwidth offers a proprietary intelligent routing protocol that can provide lower latency for applications such as game servers etc. For basic web services such as http, email, ftp, the standard bandwidth will be more than adequate.

Premium bandwidth does not necessarily have a proprietary technology that optimizes BGP. This all depends on the provider you use. For example, if you go for InterNAP bandwidth, then yes you will be taking advantage of this. But ask yourself, is it really necessary? Or is it mainly just glorified marketing? ;) Not saying that InterNAP is bad, I use them and I love them, but it doesn't come very cheap. (generally)

From my experience, you do not need to have 'premium bandwidth'. It depends on what the 'value network' is, though. If we are talking about Cogent, then I wouldn't go near it. Not because Cogent is bad, they are actually very good, but there is better for the same price range. IMHO, some of the best value networks can be found at either www.steadfast.net or www.ptptech.com. PTPTech is basically Tiscali & nLayer, and steadfast is Telia, PCCW (BTN), nLayer. Tiscali (@ ptptech), has access to the major tier-1 providers, we are talking - GBLX, Verio, Sprint, Level 3, Savvis. This is all local in Washington, DC. You are not going to see any difference at all for most any application between a value network and premium network. But just make sure to choose the right value network.

The definition that we use for Premium Bandwidth is bandwidth provided by multiple Tier1 providers. The advantages of using Tier 1 Bandwidth is that you have less hops between networks which in general will lower your latency and reduce packet loss. Some additional benefits of using the larger global networks are greater diversity of routes in cases of net congestion, faster data throughput, and low possibility of provider "overselling."

Liquid Web solely uses tier1 bandwidth from multiple providers. It might be more than needed for some customers, but our clients seem to be really happy that we only go w/ the best. Hope this helps. Good luck in your search!

In regards to OP, I'd just like to say, if you find THE server you wan't and its not managed, there are some great third party providers (also around WHT). I'm just commenting on this because it seems you'll perhaps be using the server to offer hosting, hence the unlimited requirements, and you can include end user support in this way.

most webhosts offering dedicateds, offer what you are looking for
since your requirements are pretty basic, you could get what you want even if you google it

I recommend WiredTree, have a server with them now and support is top notch

Jonesolutions is also good, have a server with them.
