Hi,

While surfing through nocster.net virtual hosting plans I was very shocked, they are offering 5gb bandwidth plan with all unlimited things in just $4.99/month. This will directly create competition with to all dedicated hosting customer using nocster.net dedicated services. :o

If any customer hosted on nocster.net dedicated server is smart enough to trace that server is hosted on nocster.net then he may choose to host with nocster.net, if dedicate server host is not offering similar pricing as nocster.net. :(

Am I being overcautious in this regards! or it is ok for dedicated provider to directly compete with its dedicated customers. Please comment what you think about this. :o

I have to say I agree with you on this one... it does seem a little strange and something which could easily put people off.

I think reseller accounts are OK... but seeing their virtual plans I would be cautious.

I thought exactly the same thing when I looked at their virtual hosting plans. There is no way I can compete with that.

Of course you can't compete against someone trying to be another Rackshack. Just as RS encourages even their dedicated server buyers into using RS's DNS (which easily let's any customer see who the real provider is... where as RS could spend $10/yr. for anonymous name servers but won't)...... Burst just wants a piece of the pie that RS has been getting from others. They don't care if they undercut their own resellers of which it would be reasonable to guess that server buyers of theirs bring in more business than $5 hosting plans would, so why offer them?

I was upset when seeing $20 cpanel addon and I emailed Nick the owner of Darkorb about it... but he assured me Burst is getting no special treatment.. which is VERY hard to believe but all I can is trust him it's the truth. So if they are not getting special treatment then their absolute lowest cost for Cpanel is $25/month. So they eat $5 in the server cost. Why?

Doesn't matter though. People have long lasting memories around this place :)

That's not quite true. Check your lowest costs analysis again...

Their $30 per month plan with unlimited domains would be able to accommodate one of our domain hosting servers (nameroute.com) which run 2000 domains per server.
Certainly the bandwidth and disk space would take it.

I wonder if they would allow us to run 2000 domains on one of those accounts given that 2000 is the absolute max we can run on one finely tuned server.

Probably not.

On the reseller thing its never good for a business to compete with its own reseller channel.
I am surprised Burst want to get into the $5 hosting market.
Its a lot of work for very little gain.

Like it or not, Rackshack has changed the face of web hosting and everyone just has to fit in with the new world order.

OMG, 2000 domains per server! I take they are simple non-dynamic html sites ?

Yes
40% of them have no content, the other 60% are e-mail accounts plus basic html (no cgi)
Very, very stable.
100 days plus before they need any sort of reboot or attention.

The servers don't run DNS or SMTP
and the CPanel is a stripped down skin with very basic functions like password change and mail forwarding.

What can I say except that it works for that purpose.
It shows you whats possible.
The only issue has been passwords stopping working occasionally.
We are going to try a freeBSD machine next to see if that is any better with passwords.

Ah, makes sense. You shouldn't generate any load problems at all under those circumstances. Best of luck to you, I know FreeBSD will not let you down.
