I really wouldn't say that's high for virtual hosting. I would only expect a lower rate on dedicated hosting.

I have seen it as high as $11/gig

Reason being, if you go over your ammount it is your responsibility to do a package upgrade. You can't really do a package upgrade on a dedicated server. Well, not the same as a virstual/shared hosting setup.

I charge the same for extra gigs at my biz.

And I wont charge as much when I offer dedicated and co-location in the coming weeks. Because with dedicated co-location type clients usually they can go over their limit often, so a $3-$4/gig charge makes it less harsh.

Thats my logic behind it at least.

Well, I'd say there are two main reasons for lower bandwidth charges on dedicated/co-lo servers:

- The hardware cost is being accounted for separately, and doesn't need to be factored into other charges.

- The volumes are higher, which means the bandwidth should cost less in the first place.

$5 per Gb is low for V.Hosting, one of the lowest I've seen, their is a certain Web Hosting in the UK that charges £23.50 per Gb ($34 per Gb) for extra bandwidth.

I lied it is £58.75 per Gb ($85.19 per Gb) for Virtual hosting, the above price is for dedicated hosting
