Yeah, it's on the high end. But you're looking at their "managed dedicated servers" -- the equivalent "regular" dedicated server package is $395 monthly with a $395 setup. For the extra money, you're paying for added service, as they say: "we help you track system availability, maintain solid performance, and protect you against intruders and failures."

And they do offer some things that many other dedicated server providers don't. For example, there are a lot of threads here about the nonexistence of really "24/7 support" at a lot of places; Verio really does offer it. And, for example, from their SLA page "Verio will replace any failed hardware component and have your server accessible within 90 minutes of Verio learning of this hardware failure" means 90 minutes anytime, even if it's 230 am. And that SLA itself is beyond what many places have.

When I colocated with them, it cost a lot. But it was WORTH it. They are very high priced, but you can expect top notch service.

So they sholud be the provider to use for a dns server, if they manage to keep my server anywhere around 99% it would be ok, but only that one with 400-500, 1000 is a little too much :)

With all of the cuts Verio has been making, I would be weary of using them until things stabalize.

They closed some data centers a while back, and are now using just two data centers in the US, and one in Europe. They appear to be as stable as anyone... in an industry in which almost no one is entirely stable.

I wouldnt worrie. Go with one of their main datacenters and you should be fine. They were consolidating. I think the one is in Texas that they want people to move to.

A MUD I used to play on was at one time hosted by Verio - and it was terribly slow. I wouldn't pay anywhere near that price for that kind of service.

A search of this forum or elsewhere would show that almost universally Verio is praised for the speed of their network and for their uptime. Your one experience with one site would seem to be an exception, and of course could have been attributed in large part to the particular server specs and the software that was being used.

i'm a little worried about verio's routing. i see people complaining about cogent alot, but verio brings me in from europe to new jersey, then takes me all across the country just to get back to DC.

Nope, I had the same experience for the two years I was a customer of a Verio reseller. Often I (and my forum members) would bounce endlessly around their network without being able to reach our server. It was an intermittent and fairly regular problem that they never cleared up.

the server is gold plated....

think I'll raise my prices to theirs....lets see, I could make as much then off one server as I currently make for each 5 to 7....
