View Full Version : RackShack $1.00 Setup
Has anyone in here successfully acquired any rackshack server for their $1.00 Setup fee under "Project OK 10K Setup" which had been running until late last month?
I just want to know if I happened to be an unlucky soul or not!
Would appreciate feedback!

Explains why they are no longer $1
This is a thread dedicated to the $1 PotLuck servers:

To answer your question, yes. We purchased 2 brand new Compaqs with $1 setup fees. :D You've just got to know when the sale starts, and be there 10 minutes ahead of time and click refresh for the next half hour. ;)
Thanks sonichost!
I ask this because I sent in a fax order as soon as I learnt of the $1 setup. And then after 4 days I received an email saying the setup fees were now higher and if I wanted to go ahead with my order at the higher setup rate. I asked wasnt I obliged to get the rate I signed up for and the sales person said the rate applies at the time when they enter the order into the systems and doesnt matter when I faxed my order. So I ended up paying $99setup and $99/month for an ensim server as opposed to my original $1.00setup and $99/month for a plesk 200 server.
I feel cheated because they got to my fax late and so I lost the great deal I was confident I had gotten.
Guess I was just unlucky! :( Well next time...
Regards.
bacid 06-02-2002, 02:11 PM i got one of the $1 potluck servers that supposedly have ECC ram and are 'tier-1' servers... no idea if it really is ECC ram as i dont believe theres a way to test/find out unless you see the bootup screen.
i havent had any problems with the server though, very stable and netsaint hasnt reported any downtime to me yet.
astralexis 06-02-2002, 02:17 PM In my opinion you simply made a mistake... you should have placed your order online in order to make the sale perfect immediately, rather than place an order and wait for Rackshack to accept it.
Another WHT member, also unhappy because he didn't get the 1$ setup from Rackshack, had more of a reason to feel cheated (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=51993).
Actually I did try to signup online, but I kept receiving "ASP Script Timeout Errors" when trying to view their order page and then got redirected to some page ending in ipsignupdown.asp with a link to the fax order form. That was the reason for resorting to fax. Hell the fax alone cost me $20. International!
sonichost 06-02-2002, 04:29 PM Bummer, maybe you can land one next time. :)
As a backup I had 2 different computers ready on 2 different ISPs just to be safe. I don't blame you for being upset, I would be!
At least you know there's a good chance for another sale, provided their website can hold up.
thesmallguyshost 06-02-2002, 11:11 PM 2 different computers on 2 different isp's ?
What were you people trying to order? Everyone one of them?
There were $1 setup machines for days and days for a stretch there.... PIII 1 gig machines with Ensim and then plain red hat servers were available at any give time of the day I logged in checked for over week straight... up until last week when they stopped the $1 setup.

I personally had no idea how many Potluck servers they were planning on letting go at that price. The ones we got turned out to be brand new Compaq DL320s. :D Also, I had a very limited time frame in which I would be able to purchase.
Lastly my DSL ISP is  Centurytel:rolleyes: . I need a backup for *everything*. :)
ho247 06-04-2002, 04:45 AM I thought the PotLuck servers were all whiteboxes? Were some of them Compaq DL320s?

cologroup 06-04-2002, 04:54 AM Like other hosts that sell bandwidth and max out the Cogent pipe, they will not be able to get a 2nd gig line. I know of at least 5 other companies with the same problem. And they can't keep their prices if they can't get another Cogent line.
Whats that all about? Im lost!

Alan The potluck servers, at least the recent ones, were all "Tier 1" systems, not white boxes (and from what I saw on the forums, they are all Compaqs).

They had prices (monthly anyways) before the Cogent line was even installed, what makes you think the need another Cogent line to keep their prices?
