Hi

I am hoping someone can help?

I have name servers -

Primary Server Hostname:
ns1.kjedwards.co.uk
209.124.81.92

Secondary Server Hostname:
ns2.kjedwards.co.uk
209.124.81.93

These were set up via a new hosting account with Netacore.

I registered the .co.uk name via 123-reg in the UK entered the IP together with the DNS and everything was set up right.

I now want to set up a .com domain.

I had a look at this forum and several people suggested GoDaddy because the domain cost is just $8.95.

I walked through most of the domain registration purchase at GoDaddy then found a line which said something like -

The DNS must be registered with nsiregistry to work with our system.

So I checked with nsiregistry and they are not - because I only have a .co.uk domain at the moment.

I emailed GoDaddy support and they came back with this -

'Unfortunately you are correct, name servers must be registered with the nsiregistry to work with our system. Unless you can create name servers directly attached to your domain or choose hosting which is registered with the nsiregistry you will not be able to use our service to point your dns at your hosting directory.'

Does anyone know how to get around this problem?

If I buy a .com domain via GoDaddy and set up the DNS to one not yet registered with nsiregistry will the fact that the DNS has been registered with Nominet UK means the DNS will automatically be registered by nsiregistry?

Any help will be gratefully received

Many thanks

Kevin

GoDaddy should be able to help you with this. Foreign nameserver entries need to be entered in the CNO registry if you want to use them with a .com domain. I've done this for you.

This is something that your registrar knows how to do and should provide tools or at least support for doing so.

If you have other foreign nameservers you need defined, please let me know off list and I'll be happy to add them for you.

The nameservers themselves need to be created at the registrar where the domain is registered - your .co.uk registrar - but they can be added to the CNO registry by any registrar.

Hi

thewitt - Many thanks for that.

Reading between the lines I feel GoDaddy were trying to get me to use their own hosting service.

I have read some other posts regarding GoDaddy on this forum some say they are good others say they are no so good.

On another point does anyone know a good reseller program for domain names apart from GoDaddy?

Thanks again

Kevin
