Mike235 07-05-2006, 05:56 PM Have a Intel D 3.0 installing XP fresh install and it looks like it's stuck on "installing devices" cursor still moves and so does that little thing in the bottom right hand corner but the bar on the left side hasn't moved.
fromage 07-05-2006, 07:56 PM Your CD is defective. It did on mine to, I changed the CD with another one and it worked fine.
Or you have a hardware problem.

I think it's hardware. Would drivers do it?
The drivers i need are not on the XP install CD and of course i can't install them before XP is my PC.
dollar 07-05-2006, 10:17 PM What drivers that you need aren't on the CD?
palconit 07-08-2006, 09:22 AM XP installation should take around 30 mins unless there is a problem with your CD.
If you could try another backup CD of your XP installer maybe we can check it out.
Evolver 07-08-2006, 02:03 PM Base install is pretty quick but takes way longer when you do all the updates.
One thing you should do first. If you dont have a router firewall download a free firewall first and burn it to cd. Then install your XP offline. Then install the software firewall. If you dont I can guarantee you that by the time you log in for the first time you'll get hit by one of the Blaster virus variants.
palconit 07-08-2006, 02:06 PM true, blaster worms are most likely the first to hit your new system.
better compile a cd or xp updates before connecting to the internet to activate your OS
rtm|Row 07-09-2006, 05:41 PM I have installed xp at home, tho i was behind a NAT router and also had a firewall running before connecting to Interweb and getting sp2
Cool Surfer 07-10-2006, 10:28 AM Have you tried installing Xp on a different machine from same cd ?
WickedShark 07-18-2006, 03:04 PM around an hour if all goes well but if you are doing updates add at least another hour if you have high speed.
If you have dial up add at least a week

Is this the first time you install XP on this computer? If so you might need to check your hardware to make sure there are no known issues. You should also try to clean the CD.
Hope this helps.

Shock Hosts 07-19-2006, 04:48 AM I have installed XP on my P4 2.4GHz in under 30 minutes.
XeHoster 07-20-2006, 11:08 AM With my AMD Athlon 64 3500+ and 1GB DDR400 it should take about 30-45 minutes. Make sure your cd is not deffective and I would have backup that cd if I were you :p
frankiee 07-20-2006, 12:18 PM MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG EVERYTHING BEFORE INSTALLING: PRINTERS, SCANNERS, GAMING CONTROLLERS, ACCESSORIES, etc.
I've actually had this problem before, and it was my printer that caused it. And don't worry, this is not a rare problem, it's actually a pretty popular problem among the Windows XP Installations. If that doesn't work, just check your cd, borrow a friend's or whatever.

Just as proof. And FYI, the speed in which XP installs is mostly based on hard-drive speed, not memory or CPU (even though they play a role). I have two 10k rpm raptors at RAID-0, so it takes no usually 10-15 minutes.
davccl 07-20-2006, 04:31 PM TroubleShoot Question : Is the harddisk that you are installing with XP are new harddisk or is it contain a previous XP installed on it?
Answer : If yes, it is a new hard disk, hints : There might be a hardware conflict or defective, example, if conflict, some onboard vga might have a crash with a vga card that you install, or some device didn't plug correctly meaning, it might have loosen or something, or the heatsink fan that you use might have problem like heat, try changing a much more cooler heatsink with fan. Last but this is rare case, the CD that you use might have scratches or problems.
Your Question on : How long it would take for Window XP to install?
Answer : It might depend on what type of device that you use, if you are using a Pentium II 366mhz, with a 256MB RAM, it will take almost about 1hour +, but with the specs that you specify earlier, it may take roughly about 30~50mins. In some Systems Specs, it might take around 10mins ~ 20mins to install Windows XP.
FYI Answer : On installing a Windows XP, fresh install, Windows XP will use the most near-to or compatible drivers for your installed device, and it doesn't prompt you for device driver CDs, unless you are using a Server base system with some SCSI or External Devices.
Hope the above information would help. Good Luck.
DarkStealth 07-20-2006, 05:30 PM Try calling microsoft they will help you sort things out. Hopefully ;)
Frimon86 07-20-2006, 05:39 PM Takes me no more than a half an hour or less.. But then again when I install xp I go off and watch tv and or play games so it takes longer because while xp loads Im away so I dont monitor the screen so it can be finished while im off doing what ever. I never really timed my self lol I dont find that human and too geeky
wild boar 07-21-2006, 02:37 PM One of my family members PC broke down, so I reinstalled XP, and it was doing the same thing. After exchanging the motherboard, it worked.
