View Full Version : Lost Vista Key....
ThatScriptGuy 07-05-2006, 02:50 PM I downloaded the Vista public Beta whenever it had just been released, and burned it to a DVD. I also got my product key on that webpage. I wrote the key down and installed Vista, hated it (semi-old computer) and reinstalled XP. I have since acquired a new computer that would handle vista quite nicely, but I no longer have that paper with the key on it. Does MS provide any means of getting the key emailed to me? Or calling them up for it? Any advice is mucho appreciated.

(Stephen) 07-05-2006, 03:36 PM Just fill out the form and get another key.
ThatScriptGuy 07-05-2006, 04:01 PM Link to the form? They've taken it offline as far as I know. It was only a limited beta.
(Stephen) 07-05-2006, 05:01 PM Oh, did ont realize that, I have a few keys for it, but I don't think they will work with that customer preview program, I never downloaded or signed up for that.
excelblue 07-05-2006, 05:37 PM They should have emailed you something with a key when you signed up for the CPP. Read the email carefully and see if the key is anywhere. It might not be in a conspicious part of the email (IIRC, they put it at the bottom).
Anyways, in order to prevent such things from happening, I always write the key on the physical CD itself and always store it in a text file in the same directory as where I place my ISO.
ThatScriptGuy 07-05-2006, 06:15 PM Thing is that we were having mail server issues at the time (bounces all over the place) and I never got the blasted key......Don't want to resort to a 'publically available' key but I guess I will if I have to......
IncubuS 07-05-2006, 06:21 PM Try register again for download application with a different e-mail address and i belive that the new key they should provide should work on your allready installed OS ( if you had install it ) .
NE-Andy 07-05-2006, 06:27 PM You need a key for Vista open beta/beta 2? I didn't recall getting one from M$ when I downloaded my copy...
ThatScriptGuy 07-05-2006, 06:29 PM Yes, you do. When they opened for the beta release, you had to sign in with your .NET passport to download. I thought maybe they would store this key that was assigned to me on their servers and I could retrieve it but so far I haven't been very lucky in finding it.
And to Incubus, you can no longer register for a key. The beta is technically closed, but the ISOs are still available to download until July 12.

ThatScriptGuy 07-06-2006, 12:59 PM Anyone have any advice here? I'm not even into the warez world so I don't even know where to find a key at (don't even know if it would really work since I technically probably couldn't activate it)
Any help is still appreciated.
Kevin
Kevin, I'd check your PM box. Me thinks there is a key there.
(I hit "get key" twice when I signed up and they sent me 2 unique ones).
ThatScriptGuy 07-08-2006, 07:55 PM Wow, this is funny. I got a PM early this morning from one of my forum members...her son had tried the beta and also had a key.
Thank you very much Richard....I will probably end up using this one, as it hasn't ever (I'm assuming) been used before.

DaiTengu 07-17-2006, 02:47 AM I had my key written down on a piece of paper, and I can't find the blasted thing. I lost my e-mails in a hard drive crash weeks ago, so I'm stuck :(
you wouldn't still happen to have that spare key, would you?
