View Full Version : Where can I find this skin?
option 06-01-2002, 11:33 PM Anyone know where I can buy this control panel skin? Is it included with the latest version of Cpanel? I have noticed MCHost uses this skin along with a few other hosts.
http://demo:account@mchost.com/cpanel/
FDrive 06-02-2002, 01:10 AM There is a very similar skin included with CPanel called Blue Lagoon, not sure if that's it though
xirus 06-02-2002, 03:39 AM I think thats the theme all mchost resellers use.
kosmo 06-02-2002, 07:09 PM This skin is available at http://cpanelthemes.com
MCHost has changed the colours (via CSS) and the icons (and I must unfortunately say it again: MCHost never paid for this skin or at least never provided a proof of purchase although emailed many times regarding this).

option 06-23-2002, 11:37 PM I'm still in search of this cpanel skin. There are several hosts that offer clients this skin and are not MCHost customers.
Would be nice if Kiwi from MCHost would set the record straight..

View the source code of both skins (MCHost and CPanelthemes.com) and compare the CSS classes and you will know :D

kosmo What is it your business if they bought it or not?
phpjames 06-24-2002, 06:38 AM That would be simple to make and customize.

option 06-24-2002, 07:07 AM I believe kosmo is saying he created the original theme at cpanelthemes.com and seems to feel MCHost didn't have a right to modify the skin.
I spoke with Marc and I'm sure he purchased the skin from cpanethemes.com and has simply made the design better IMO. He has every right to modify the skin he purchased.

Option,
no I don't think that my clients don't have the right to modify the skins -- I even encourage them to do it. My point is that I don't have any client "MCHost", I have never sold a license for atlantis.dnsvault.com and the owner of atlantis.dnsvault.com (MCHost) denies to present any proof of purchase. Thats all.

so this can be considered self-advertising i guess ? :stickout

Well, I'll have to leave that between you and MCHost.
I have someone who offered to sell me a similar customized version of your theme (It's not MCHost).
What's your position on this? Can an agreement be reached between him and I on a one-time purchase instead of a per server purchase agreement without violating any copyrights?

If it is similar but not derived from my skin then he has the rights to sell it and you to buy it. If it is a modified version of my original skin, then selling it is a copyright violation. But if the buyer already owns a cpanelthemes.com skin license, then the buyer probably doesn't break any low when purchasing the modified skin in order to use it on the same server.
But actually I have no clue :D

Its not a mater of bad business practice, he's trying to get MCHost to prove they bought his product...
So everyone that runs vBulletin and doesn't have an invoice on record gets off scott free? Duh, its called piracy :D
kosmo 06-24-2002, 06:24 PM edited because I changed my mind :D

kosmo 06-24-2002, 06:46 PM iamdave,
no matter what one says you DON'T WANT to get the point. Of course I keep records of who buys my software and of course this is what vB does. And in my records there is no MCHost nor is there any license for atlantis.dnsvault.com (their server running the demo using my skin). You got it now? I can't keep record of their purchase if they never purchased. You understand now? This is my last contribution to this thread. I have better things to do in my life than explaining the very basics.

But in your above post, you were saying that kosmo, must not keep good records because MCHost isn't listed??
Wouldn't that mean that MCHost prolly doesn't have a license, and kosmo is trying to find out if they are legit or not??????

Kosmo if you know that MCHost did not purchase it, why not pursue legal action?

Marc told me, a reseller has bought it. That's fine with me IF someone (Marc in this case) tells me who this reseller is so I can keep my -- guess what: my records :stickout
I am trying to keep it at a low level and solve this 50$ issue civilized without damaging people trying to earn their bread therefore I have sent several emails to Marc before going public.
I am astouned that Marc doesn't react at all and possibly loses clients (the honest ones who don't like pirated business and read this thread) instead of sending me the name of the reseller who has bought the skin or going to the shop and buying a license even now  .
hey Marc, you know where you can find me.
kosmo
iamdave 06-24-2002, 07:10 PM I don't know what to say, but I doubt Marc would put his business on the line for $50, but I maybe wrong. Let's hope Marc comes in here and clears up this issue.
MCHost-Marc 06-24-2002, 08:52 PM How come i need to go to a 3rd party forum to find out about a licensing issue that is related to our business? Sorry, i don't spend all day browsing forums.
As far as i know, i have received 1 or 2 emails from kosmo a while ago (or months ago) asking for the information on who purchased the skin and i have sent this to the email listed on the website. Never received a reply. Now months later we get accused for illegally using a skin?
I'm astouned too, but because there are public accusations going on without anyone even notifying all the parties involved. How come nobody notified me of this thread? It could have saved 2 pages of replies.
kosmo: Please send me an email to marc@mchost.com with a CC: to wyss1@mail.com
mhalbrook 06-26-2002, 05:36 AM Umm, Marc, not that I'm taking any sides, but you didn't respond to 5 e-mails or more that I've sent to you since Late February. When I mentioned this in the forums at MCHost, you said that with the volume of e-mails you get, you miss some. So, you're saying now that you don't miss e-mails? I'm confused. Either you outright ignored mine, or you could have missed his. For your sake, I hope you missed his.
kosmo 06-26-2002, 12:33 PM Marc,
if my email got lost in any way, send me a PM here ;)
