Has anyone heared of http://sourceforge.net/projects/whctrlpanel/ ?
They claim to be making a free control panel:rolleyes:
The have a demo at http://casm.wrath.dyndns.org/login.php?user=demo&pass=demo
Thier 'demo' has hardly any features
And I dunno why thier demo is called CASM:rolleyes:
They claim to have 39 developers - http://sourceforge.net/project/memberlist.php?group_id=42746
Also I noticed thier demo is running Apache 2.0.36/Windows 2000/Cable Modem:rolleyes:
FDrive 06-02-2002, 01:23 AM I've ran into that before; it's a fairly recent project, so I'd give them time before ripping in to them.
diederik 06-03-2002, 08:42 AM Demo doesn't work ( mysql errors ) :(
complx.net 06-03-2002, 10:56 AM i don't know if you guys FORGOT, but sourceforge is an OPEN SOURCE community. you know...... that stuff linux is GOOD for. it's not like this is some huge company, it's probably a bunch of guys who are TRYING to make something to save you people money.
Chicken 06-03-2002, 01:30 PM Sometimes that's good, sometimes it is just flakey people who start something and never finish it (which is ok, just ummm... not overly helpful I suppose). There are quite a few great projects there, however even more junk, just as hotscripts has quite a few great scripts (many free even) however there are scripts there that you really don't want to waste your time installing.
It is hard to be critical when people are doing things for free. I mean, it is free, the intentions are good, etc., but... at some point the end result either is great or is just so-so and so-so is well... so-so. 'A' for effort at least, and good to have people trying, even if they fail. That's still more healthy than no one trying in the first place...
:D
blacknight 06-03-2002, 04:34 PM Open Source hmmmmmm....
Let's see....
Apache, PHP, Perl, OpenSSL, PhpMyAdmin, PhpBB, Linux....
True, there are a lot of projects out there that get abandoned, or that don't do anything particularly useful, but whereas Microsoft releases a new version of windoze as a bugfix and it's always full of bugs, at least a lot of the Open source projects release patches etc. within a matter of days, sometimes hours....
ccoder 06-03-2002, 05:54 PM What i'm tired of, is **** I catch all over the internet for helping out and trying to get things done, yet 90% of the developers DO nothing. Not to say they're not interested, or capable, but they don't *do* anything.
Myself, I work full time for a datacenter doing EXACTLY what this project preports - I know its possible, I know it works, and I will make some version of it work. If any of you would like to help, please do. Be warned, I won't spend a split second of effort helping you learn what you need to know - unfortunatly I'm not a teacher - I will do what I must to get this project rolling, but not sit and teach.
Not everyone associated with the project is working, but I never expected everyone that signed up to.
Anyhow, I don't know quite how I came off sounding, but I do appriciate the comments.... it really helped me see there are at least a few people who'd like to see this finish, and appriciate at least the effort some of us put forth (not withstanding whatever you yourselves do on various other things).
-ccoder (aka netgamer7 on sourceforge)
p.s. sign up if you have time, if you're willing to ;-)

Well Paul, that's ultimately the problem eh? For some reason I compare what you said to when I go around throughout the day and get everyone pumped up for margaritas after work. Heck, who doesn't like drinking margaritas? Well, you know, everyone is interested yet by the end of the day when everyone actually has to get their donkey and go, they make excuses and only 5-10 actually end up going. If I told them anyone who goes gets $150 then I'd probably get more takers, heh...
ccoder 06-03-2002, 07:26 PM sometimes I try the founder of the project of this, but then I stop myself, and I realize that we're all trying to do things we want to do, whether it be the super motivated, want-to-be-famous people, or dedicatd, yet busy people that surround us every day. Motiviation, when found, isn't always a bad thing
Anyhow, thanks for a great forum - helps to have a place to discuss :<)
