So what is the best soletions? I am running my own DNS.
Do I need to do the folowing thing?
1. DNS ( ns1.domain.com and ns2....) Ip changing to the IP of my new ISP.
2. make all the dns enteries for evry site by the hand to the new rag4.
3.Transfer al the file's in eacht site by ftp ( manualy).
Is this correct or is there a easyer way?
Thanks guys.

hitspot 06-01-2002, 07:59 PM Hi Babak,
I would suggest either using the cobalt migration utility, or if doing it by hand, tar/gzip the sites using shell (not FTP) and move all of the site files for each site in one archive.
babak 06-01-2002, 08:12 PM Hi
TNX for your replay, I understand that there is a utility there for, but I couldn't find it. Is he on cobalt.com/support or cobalt.com/downloads?
Tnx.

Babak
ellebi 06-02-2002, 05:38 AM You can find the utility at http://www.cobalt.com/products/raq/migration.html
You can also check for raqbackup (http://www.neuhaus-internet.de/cobalt/raqbackup/), a really nice script.
hrsnake 06-05-2002, 12:11 PM i have downloaded the Migration utility, but i am a bit confused as to how it works. It has to be one both the source and the target server, right? Are there any pre-requisites that need to be installed first? Thanks
BooBoo 06-05-2002, 12:23 PM At the website, there is very important information/documentation about migrating all or part of your sites. You really should read this. There is no prerequisite for the CMU. You may want to consider using raqackup.sh (search the web to raqbackup) in conjunction with this.
I have used the rabackup with CMU in restoring all/partial sites. It really is an excellent utility. Part of the features is that it will migrate the users, along with the virtual sites. If you need the dns records to be migrated also, it will migrate them too.
hrsnake 06-05-2002, 12:31 PM i only plan to move sites one by one, could the sun migration utility process go terribly wrong? Have you ever seen anything bad happen while using it? I was planning to just copy the sites files via FTP and then migrate them one by one, what do you think of this?
Thanks
BooBoo 06-05-2002, 01:06 PM I have not had any problems in using the CMU. It seems to work fine and I have not noticed any problems posted on any forum that indicated there were problems.
The CMU can migrate one site at a time, if you want. But if you have multiple sites, why not move them all at once?
hrsnake 06-05-2002, 01:19 PM Well, i would really like to do a test run first because a lot of them have SSL, php, etc.....the source server is actually like a dedicated e-commerce server so we don't have a lot of sites to migrate. Thanks for your help!
P.S. do you know how the migration utility handles SSL?
BooBoo 06-05-2002, 02:15 PM To be honest, I am not sure. Normally, you have the server setup first, and then migrate the site. I think it will not migrate it, but I am not sure. Normally, the ssl is per ip address, so if the ip address of the site that you are migrating is different from the site that you are migrating to, you should be fine.
hrsnake 06-05-2002, 02:28 PM I was under the impression that migrating site from the source server allowed it to keep the same ip address on the target server, then the old site could just be deleted. Am i wrong about that?
Thanks
BooBoo 06-05-2002, 03:00 PM That is correct. You can only have one ssl certificate per ip address on the RaQ's.
shadowbreed 06-06-2002, 04:10 AM To transfer your DNS copy the file: "records" from your /etc/named directory
to your /etc/named directory on your new server, then go to the admin gui and simply click save changes in the control panel dns.
hrsnake 06-06-2002, 11:54 AM I don't use the DNS server in the RaQ. I am just curious as to how the migration utility handles the IP address transer.
BooBoo 06-07-2002, 11:43 AM DNS records are not ip address dependent in that the DNS records can exist on any dns server. They are simply a pointer to the correct address.
I run DNS servers with one primary ip address and the virtual sites are on a different ip address. So when you copy over the dns tarred file, you can simply tar it into the proper directory and the dns records are ready to go. There is an additional command to be eecuted after migrating the dns records, this can be found the raqbackup.sh website.
hrsnake 06-07-2002, 07:46 PM I use a DNS nameserver in the same way that you do. I just really wanted to keep the same ip addresses but i can't due the fact that after migrating a site, i can't delete it off the source server. This is forcing me to change both DNS zone A records as well as the ip addresses for the migrated sites. Do you have any insight on this?
Thanks
