Rackz 06-01-2002, 05:15 PM Hi all,
i want a dedicated server with:
linux red hat
Dual pIII 1000
2GB RAM
(2) 73GB SCSI RAID5
Bandwidth 3000 giga per month:D
Cpanel+WHM
( I dont like rackshack :o )
any one can help me
FiberOptic 06-01-2002, 05:17 PM You could build a datacenter yourself :)
Rackz 06-01-2002, 05:19 PM
percent5 06-01-2002, 05:29 PM How much you willing to spend per month?
Rackz 06-01-2002, 05:33 PM $1000 to $1500
TKJun 06-01-2002, 06:00 PM i think 700+ can get about same config you are saying
and the bandwith is unlimited.
if you find the right company
mdrussell 06-01-2002, 06:05 PM You'll never push 3000Gb of bandwidth on that server. I doubt many, if any, could.

you want 2 73 gb scsi raid5 arrays?
Because you cant make raid 5 with only 2 disks.....
I doubt you'll find many offering that solution without a long contract as thats not exactly easy to do, thats not a cheap setup, thats for sure, might as well go quad cpu to compliment the rest of the setup.
kwimberl 06-01-2002, 06:25 PM I am assuming he doesn't understand he needs 3 drives.

That really depends on the content. If it's mostly downloads and not something that's cpu intensive, it can happen.

Just so you know, if you are using 3000GB of transfer, you need 10Mpbs. That's the way it will be measured at that level.
mdrussell 06-01-2002, 06:31 PM Yes, it is possible - I'd be interested to see the server stats of a server pushing that much traffic though. ;)
porcupine 06-01-2002, 06:34 PM btw, rackz, you realise you posted in a forum that you cant get any offers from as it's forbidden. I can think of quite a few hosts that offer such amounts of bandwidth, etc. but im not sure you'd be getting that raid array with them ^_^
kwimberl 06-01-2002, 06:35 PM We have one server here that pushes 15Mbps per month. Granted it's not running CPanel and it's on BSD. ;)

Yes, but can you think of many hosts on here that can offer that kind of bandwidth for the price he's looking for and it be BGP4 with good providers? :D

Sure.... for his price? Not likely.
cperciva 06-01-2002, 06:44 PM voxtreme-matt: Ask ClusterMania about his server. Last thing I heard, it served 1.6GB in 6 minutes.
kwimberl: 3000GB/month might be a 10Mbps *average*, but at those levels you'll rarely see pricing done based on average levels. More relevant is that the 95th percentile will be roughly 15Mbps.
cperciva 06-01-2002, 06:54 PM to the original poster: You'd probably do better to build/buy your own server and look for colocation. Most dedicated server companies are aimed at more commodity offerings than what you're looking for.
