Well, I had a domain registered with TotalNIC (a long time ago) and let a few drop as they were just impossibl to deal with and I couldn't transfer my domains out from their evil clutches. One domain I wanted however, so I paid $10 to transfer it from their CORE system to their new ICANN system (whatever - see other posts here about peopel trying to transfer out of their CORE system and see this message and the posts under that message (http://forum.icann.org/cgi-bin/rpgmessage.cgi?regxfer;3C09A26800000079) re: TotalNIC).

After 60 days, I was excited to finally put in a trasfer request to get that domain out of TotalNIC's hands for good (this is also the only remaining domain I have elsewhere, the others are all in one place finally).

Transfer attempt got this reply from my 'new' registrar:

Dear Customer:

Thank you for your recent transfer request. We want to let you know transfer
order #XXXXXX has been closed.

Below you will find the status of all domains in this order.

The following domain names were not transferred successfully:

Domain Name Rejection Reason
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
domain.net Canceled - Domain is locked at current registrar, or is not yet 60 days old

One or more of the domains in this order was rejected because the domain was locked. Please contact the current registrar, request them to remove the lock, and then resubmit a transfer order for this domain.

If you have any questions please reply to this e-mail.
Thank you for using our domain registration services.

A email sent to TotalNIC asking what the *beep* was up NOW and what the problem was NOW (after all the hassle I went through before) got this:

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your e-mail. This domain name cannot yet be transferred out of the TotalNIC ICANN system as it has not been in the system for 150 days.

So they won't let it transfer out if it hasn't been in the system for 5 months! They suck. Their CORE registrantion version sucks. Their ICANN registration version sucks. These people should be stepped on like bugs.

*my eye now twitches thanks to TotalNIC*

The next step will be for guys like this to not transfer domain names that are in the system for less than 180 days, or are within 180 days of reaching their expiration or their anniversary date...

You can still transfer, but only for 5 days a year - assuming that these don't fall on a holiday or weekend...oh, and you need to send the transfer certification via registered mail...

Sorry to hear you are still being screwed Chicken.

The certified mail thing was what they wanted for transferring out of their CORE system, you'd think it was a joke. Luckily they just ignore any mail that comes so it is pointless to actually do that.

I made a mistake about ohhhh 2 years ago-ish and am still paying for it. We'll see what excuse they give after 150 days. Should be a good one...

Another similar deal occurs with Joker.com.. whose fervent desire to comply with German commercial and consumer law allows them to create baffle after baffle between you and your domain.. they also have the old CORE system as well as ICANN.. I won't post the Joker.com emails, but they are almost verbatim to those above.. renewing in the ICANN system equates to a new registration.. 'things that make you go ****'

Note this thread is over 3 months old!

Just an update. Tried a couple more times and was still denied transfer. This time they haven't bothered to reply to my emails asking them to unlock the domain and allow the transfer. That was a waste of $10 to transfer it to their ICANN'T system.

Totalnic sucks, let it be known, not that I haven't said it before, but I just wanted to update on this latest round of failed transfers and remind everyone not to get a domain with them unless you like dealing with the worst registrar on the planet.

SUCK SUCK SUCK

Chicken,

Have you gotten any results with transferring domains away from them?? I have a handfull that I didn't get transferred out before their change of policy that required you give birth to the owner right there in their corporate lobby.
