I wonder if I need to know how to program in php in order to use os commerce properly, and in order to use paypal properly, I do not know anything about php... do you think I should hire someone?

Well, for basic setup and operation, no PHP skills are required for OSCommerce and/or selling things via PayPal. It IS a good idea to have a php developer in mind should you ever need anything and/or you want a custom interface, etc.

You weren't too specific in what you were trying to do, but as I said, if just the basics of selling things online, no experience is required.

It's actually quite easy to set up because I had a friend who knew nothing about PHP, but just followed the instructions and it was all a success. It's easy to use if you want to use it for what it provides, but when you start customising the script, you really need to know how things work and how it is all structured.

As our experience shows if you use current skins there no need to PHP skills. But if you need to customize design you will need good PHP skills.
