View Full Version : Datahosts.com - My experience
Zambini 06-28-2006, 02:29 AM The first few months of my eBay-purchased unlimited/unlimited reseller account were awesome. Any ticket I posted was answered correctly within 20 minutes.
Then, a few days ago I received an email saying they were changing client-management software.
Then, yesterday, apparently their entire server went down unannounced. In the email they sent, it did not say anything about a server shutdown. Datahosts.com was down, all my hosted sites were down. Everything. For at least 24 hours. And I had no means of contact with them.
This got me thinking "I need a new host"
So i switched to the ever-so-supportive JaguarPC.
I'm serious, their support team is A+++++++.
And they have hardline contacts (phone numbers)
So that is my experience with Datahosts. Take it as you want.
Overall, I would rate Datahosts a 6 of 10.
Goodies:
Great plans
Good support (only if you can access their website)
Decent features
Linux :)
Not-So-Goodies:
My shell access seemed to be reset a day after I requested it. I never had shell access for more than 24 hours, even though they said it would stay on.
No contact outside their website
Not very powerful servers. (Single Core AMD 2ghz w/256kb Cache)
CEL-Arun 06-28-2006, 03:04 AM It could be that they were simply going through some pains while changing their procedures (along with their software).
Zambini 06-28-2006, 04:04 AM Yea, but I realized that with no way of contact, say they accidentally trip over the cord and unplug their server, (i know its unlikely, but I couldnt think of something of equal damage to the server) I had no means of contact.
JPC has phone numbers and emails.
CyberHostPro 06-28-2006, 08:42 AM say they accidentally trip over the cord and unplug their server,
haha, good one ;)
But unlimited resellers on ebay aint always the way to go!
Zambini 07-03-2006, 01:21 AM Actually I looked through their plan and they said they offered PHP 5, but the version on cpanel was 4.4.2. I wonder what else they screwed me with.....

If they had a dual PHP4 and PHP5 installation, cPanel would show 4.4.2 but PHP5 would still be installed ;).

This is our goal, and we stand by it 100%. Some tickets may take longer to respond to due to amount of support request, but we stand by our support.

Sorry to call you out here, but yes you have a way to contact us. How...800 number given to you when you signup with our service. However, again...our server was not down for 24hrs..but there is not a need to defend this. If anyone has any questions they can check our uptime history and see. Your sites were down because you were not paying.

I am sorry that the server YOU ordered was not powerful enough for you, but our line of servers has always allowed the client to customize what they wanted. However, when you needed to know how to create an account in WHM...we knew you were new to hosting. So, again...I apologize that we did not push you to purchase a P4 and pay a little more, but next time we will ensure that you get the highest server we have to allow you the power you need...if you decide to come back to DataHosts

Zambini...had you known this prior to post, or even asked us about your concern...we would have been happy to assist you and show what we have installed on the server. You could also have seen it on phpinfo.php had you requested, but you never did. So, why complain about something when you never even attempted to get assistance on it.
Ebay plans...there were never unlimited webspace, but had the person read the auction...it was unlimited bandwith on the reseller accounts. Sorry if bandwidth and storage is confusing to you.
RW-Steven 02-03-2007, 10:35 AM Unlimited webspace / bandwith, doesnt matter which, neither exists.
That was the first instance in which you got screwed over Zambini
Zambini 02-05-2007, 02:33 AM I can't believe that this thread is still being posted on. That was half a year ago.
Anyway I'm not gonna get into any arguments because I just don't care. I am happy with my host.
But I would like to say that the eBay listing did say unlimited.

It would do the WHT forums a good service to lock this thread. I Haven't been to WHT in a long time and I won't again either.

I think you can request the thread be closed via the helpdesk:

Shaw Networks 02-06-2007, 08:57 PM Were the first three months of service excellent though? No downtime?
DataHosts 02-13-2007, 04:34 PM To our knowledge and ticket history this user never complained of downtime. The only downtime for this client was a server upgrade and a billing system upgrade. Again, the user is complaining because they were caught with illegal activity.
Zam....funny how you do not have a TOS image that states you have unlimited up to 10% of resources. No worries tho...your pathetic complaints about DataHosts is all too funny. Since you were not even aware of how to use PHP when you were with us.
ArialServ 02-13-2007, 08:11 PM It's amazing how hosts change. Ebay listed unlimited seller to dedicated server provider.
DataHosts 02-13-2007, 09:09 PM Thanks...yes it is. Like I said...that was with the previous management
