View Full Version : How to Promote Web Hosting Company!
shobraj 01-30-2001, 12:49 AM Hi Everybody,
How will I promote my hosting company. I know any hosting company won't help me in this, but this is a question for users, how/where you look for a host.
syanet 01-30-2001, 01:05 AM Also interested in this as I've been trying to promote my host this week. So far I've done host directires and search engines. I post links in webmaster forums whenever possible. I'm to poor to buy advertising :), so that's out of the question for now at least. Other than that I haven't done to much. How does everyone else promote?
GordonH 01-30-2001, 07:31 AM Hello
Here's the analysis of our sales:
60% Word of mouth recommendation.
10% Search Engines
15% Web hosting directories (mainly Hostsearch.com)
15% Advertising or not known
We recently started advertising on Google using adwords which has been very successful.
Rather than going for keywords like "web hosting" which could use up 100s of dollars per day we went for specific phrase matching of unusual searches like:
"cheapest place to register a domain in the uk"
These get very few hits but we are always at the top and get very high click through rates for expenditures of 10's of cents per day (even less on some of the keywords)
The other good thing is that you can run a campaign at the times of day or week that you know you get most sign ups.
We also do banner advertising.
Our free web hosting service produces thousands of free banner impressions per day on Linkbuddies which we use to advertise our paid services. This brings in the odd customer.
Since we launched a paid option on our free web host last week, the number of referals from that source has increased as well.
Most days its 2 - 3 sign ups in total.
Yesterday we had 13.

syanet 01-30-2001, 09:12 AM You mentioned 2-3 signups a day. What's everyone else's free host getting? I've been opened an average about 8 or so.
GordonH 01-30-2001, 09:19 AM Sorry
Thats 3 sign ups to the paid service.
The free service gets 50 - 100 but since we developed a problem witht he front page we have been down to 10 - 20 per day.
The page stops downloading when it gets to one of the graphics.
I initially thought it was a scripting problem, but now I have found it I will upload the graphics again).

syanet 01-30-2001, 09:34 AM 50-100 a day! I can't seem to break 15, although I've only been open 5 days. But still, I think I should be getting more than this. I seem to be promoting as well as everyone else. How long have you been open?
GordonH 01-30-2001, 09:39 AM About 5 months, but its all going wrong as no-one can see the front page!
Anyway I will fix it when I get back to the office.
