Greetings,

We just received some funds in our advertising budget and I was just wondering what your optinions regarding advertising on SitePoint? (ex. what is the best position to advertise?).

* What do you think of their top, frontpage text-based ad? Tp SP tribune ad? Do you think people notice it?

Best Regards,
Boris

SitePoint is a good site. I like their weekly newsletter.
How about advertise at sitepointforums > webhosting discussion section?
As long as I know, sitepoint only offer CPM ad campaign (which is little expensive than others) and if you are offering 5-10 bucks hosting packages, sure you will get maximum results.

But if you offering higher than 5-10 bucks hosting packages, I would suggest you to go with pay per lead basis.
Go to linkexchange revenue avenue, commission junction etc.

From what Matt Mickiewicz tells me click-through rates are reasonable on the forums; if you want to advertise on the main site you'll need to be prepared to pay in advance as spots are booked out reasonably quickly.

If you like I can get Matt to contact you directly about such a question; otherwise have a look at http://www.sitepoint.com/mediakit/ I'm sure Wayne wouldn't mind rotating the banners on the forums.

We are interested in a 40-day front page top-text advertisement and 1 top SP Tribune ad for HostVelocity.com

You think the return would be profitable for a site like ours?

I would cautiously say it would be a good return, but I'm not in any real position to give you an exact analysis.

The number one problem with the new companies that appear today is that, since they are very new, no one has heard of them and most people are afraid of doing business with a company like that.

That's why I think that a good advertising round on a reputable site (ex. SP) can really turn things around.

Thanks to everyone who responded to this post for their time :)

Best Regards,
Boris

Personally I would stray away from advertising hosting on SitePoint, I had a chat a bit back with Matt about it and he recommended against it.

Last I heard on the forums was that the banners were getting about 0.2% CTR (Although it could have been less) but this was in December when ServerAnswer were running a banner at that time pageviews were 300,000 I think - they are about 500,000.

0.2% CTR? That sounds just about right for a Run of Site banner ad campaign. If you do some keyword banner advertising with a search engine, then you'll see the numbers pick-up a little - but not by much.

Your best bet is to do some keyword purchasing with a search engine (go2.com for ex.) so you'll be listed higher in the search engine results.

Or try sponsoring a newsletter specific to the audience you're targeting.

If you're set on doing some general banner advertising, then try getting a good CPC (Cost Per Click) rate. That way, you're only paying for results.

Kind Regards,

Penny Ortega
