Dear Whts,
We have been thinking about donating a percentage of our profits to charity every year. Although we were wondering what it would say to our clients, if we added the information to our site while also if we should do it?
What do you think about it?
Thanks

Sure why not it always looks good to give back to your community or a national project. If you give back to a local community effort then make that your point to local buyers it can help a lot. So yes voice that you do it nothing is wrong with that.

We were thinking of donating to action aid rather than a local project, although if we were to sponser rather than donate to the charity we gain both the community effort and a bit of marketing. Thanks for that.

It's not a bad idea. I'd just caution not to get carried away so that you still have liquid capital that you can tap into if the market goes sour.

The concept is nice and good, but it must be marketed locally.
WHT and many of the online markets typically compete on price alone, if people ignore a less desirable reputation and inferior service for a lower price, I doubt they would pay an average price if some was going to charity.
As I mentioned earlier, it would work well locally though. I agree with redihot.com

Contributing to charity is always a good thing. WE donate mostly time, resources, man-power, and the occasional dollar to organizations which our employees are passionate for. For example gay-rights 'coalitions', health-related research funds, etcetera.
No matter what you do or how much you donate, I am sure it will help someone and go one of the many causes out there.
Maybe someday more people (and their businesses) will be as charitable :).

I don't think you necessarily have to do that for a local charity; it really depends on who your customer base is. If you have mostly a local customer base then it makes sense; if you have an international customer base, then you should donate to a charity that does work internationally.
Whatever you do, you should issue a press release about it, and also post something on your web site. Personally, if I'm looking at two companies, one which donates a portion of the profits to charity and one that does not, but offer virtually the same product, I will always buy from the company that is donating a portion, even if its a little more expensive.
It's a win-win.. good marketing strategy, and it helps people out.
