I'm a new reseller, just started... And wondering, once you have enough clients to where it makes sense to get a dedicated server, how easy is it to move all your accounts from the reseller to your own server?

Choppy 05-30-2002, 11:53 PM Shady12, If there both using a control panel like cpanel it is easy.. But some of my customers have told me that there has been reseller providers that will not help you during this process because it generaly means that they have to use there root password and fare enough for that. But im sure if you are with the right company after you out grow your reseller plan they will offer you a dedicated server from the same NOC they are in. And they would even manage it for you obviously for a little more but easier for you and more worth it.. If you got enough clients for a dedicated server an extra 70 USD a month would not mean to much for a managed solution! Kind regards MCHost-Marc 05-31-2002, 12:51 AM If you plan to get the dedicated server with the same host as your reseller plan, it should be fairly easy to move all your clients, config files, etc. and usually also retain your IP addresses. Shady12 05-31-2002, 01:06 AM Good to know sometime in the future. I'm committed to become successful at this and think I have a good business plan and will grow..maybe not fast, but I'll get there. We've been running for 6mths now and our client base is 3 figures. It all became a reality the other day when my accountant visited from Brisbane. He last visited the office about 4mths ago and was impressed with what I had as a small client base back then. He was very impressed with the growth that had taken place over the last 4mths. It made me think what things will be like in the next 4mths. I'm capping the client base at 250 and we'll hit that no doubt by then. But as for your business, just take it one day at a time and then when you look back 6mths from now, I hope you are as satisfied as I am. Good luck. :) Shady12 05-31-2002, 02:40 AM 250 clients in 10 months..I'll be pretty dang satisfied if do that! To me it would seem like the hardest part of starting out is getting your foot in the door.. Once you do that and get 10-20 clients..I figure it would get easier eh? The first 10 to 20 are the hardest, IMO. After that, you get momentum and things just happen for you. Google has been good for us, but it's mainly word of mouth. Keep your clients happy and they'll tell everyone about you. :) mas3000 06-01-2002, 12:05 AM The host your with might be able to transfer all your accounts for you onto a dedicated server. The host your with might charge you quite a bit for that. In that case, if you don't have too many clients, you can save money and go with a cheaper company and transfer everything yourself. Although that would be a pain. |
