Quick question...

I have a 1U server with a single Pentium Dual Core processor in a Supermicro case. I will be co-locating the unit in a datacenter soon but am wondering if it would be okay to run this for a couple of days in an air conditioned office. Do not think it will be a problem with temperature, no other servers are in the room but am not familiar with this chip and how hot it runs.

Thanks!

Sure, I don't see why that would be a problem. It'll be a good experiment to see if you need another fan.

Make sure no one sits their hot coffee on the box though. :)

I see no problem with it. plenty of people run servers like that from their bedroom, let alone an air conditioned office. This'll give you a chance to play with it and see if you need any extra forms of cooling.

by all means, go for it.

Thanks for the advice. I sort of figured it'd be okay, just paranoid. It is actually fairly cold in the room, so it should be fine.

No hot cups of coffee... although am having trouble keeping the cats from sleeping on it ;-)

Tom

I used to run a couple servers under the bed I kept at the office without any trouble.. if they can handle me sitting on them you should have no trouble in a cooled office :) good luck
