Ok I will never understand what people see in this game. They spend most of the time kicking a ball around center field. And the odd time that they do kick the ball at the net, they're shooting at a target that's about a mile wide. How hard can it be to get a goal for crying out loud?

That's like basketball. I believe the net is 9 feet high and the average player with their arm fully extended has about an 8 foot reach.

Both games should be eliminated.

Hockey is the only sport that matters.

Love to hear your thoughts

PS Trash baseball also. The only sport in the word where you can be 100 lbs over weight and still play. LOL

Wow dude, maybe you should step on the soccer field and then try and tell me how hard you think soccer is....Tell me how you feel after running up and down the field for two 45 minute halves with NO LINE CHANGES. Soccer is the ultimate sport, we use no pads, except useless little shin pads and our bodies take one hell of a beating. And we are not like little baseball babies who can't play when we hang nail on our toe or a bruised pinky. As for the goal being a mile wide, no way, try taking a shot on net with with 3 defenders in your face. Soccer takes more skll than a lot of people think, soccer players are the most underrated people, especially by big tough football players who were 35 pounds of pads before they can step out and the field and take a hit.

Good look to England on Sunday.

Soccer is a great game.
Maybe the players get a little too much pay though

Beckham now gets paid £90.000 a WEEK. wow

considering that a soccer game is like 10 times as big as a hockey game... there's no surprise that soccer has bigger goals, MORE players on the field at one time, tougher to play since players run harder then any other sport except track and field...

its one of the only games (except olympics) that teams and fans from all over the world come to one area to play/spectate.

and if getting goals in soccer were as easy as you are saying it is... average game scores would be in the 10+ point area instead of always being 1-2 points...

Those guys get hit hard, hacked, stomped, whatever -- of course you never can see the contact, but there must be -- and fall screaming and flailing to the ground, clutching an obviously severely injured, maybe just plain severed, limb... and then instantly after the closest guy standing innocently next to them has a foul called against him, they bounce right back up, amazingly ready to play again!

Just kidding, I really love the game. But I do hope they start cracking down on the dives, sometimes it's just plain ridiculous and really does detract from the game.

Well I agree you have to be in top shape to play it. But I have watched it over and over again and it just doesn’t seem to move along for me.

I never understood what all the excitement was about, and my roots are from Britain.

I guess it's personal preference.

I meant no offence to any soccer fans out there.

I apologize if your offended by my post

Cheers
:)

For example, you mentioned hockey, and I'm a big NHL fan. But I know a lot of people who don't like hocky because they say things like it moves too fast for them, they can't see the puck, etc. But when I watch, I don't try to watch the puck; I don't have to. I'm watching the players' movements and positioning, and by watching that I "instinctively" know where the puck is.

When you watch soccer you might be seeing a slow-moving game where most of the players are just standing around or walking slowly most of the time. But you're missing things like the marking that's going on, the attempts to create matchups, and the dynamics of the positioning.

In other words, just like you might be watching a power play in hockey on TV, and you see an attempt to clear the zone and you just -know- that a defenseman is at the point and will intercept, without needing to see him. To an experienced soccer viewer, watching the movement of opposing players you will know when there's a chance that with the right move right now a particularly speedy striker will be successfully isolated against just the back the team's been trying all day to set him up against.

To an inexperienced viewer unfamiliar with the players, most of the time nothing is happening. To an experienced viewer who knows the players, there's rarely a dull moment.

You have a good point. I have played the game as a youngster and enjoyed it.

And I have watched many games to try too get in to it. I'm from that area so I tried to get into the game but no luck. I love hockey, I love the fast pace the hitting and so on. Lots of action all the time. But when I look at soccer it lacks the intensity that I look for in a sport.

So when the world cup comes along and people get all excited I have to wonder what they see in it.

They look at me like Im from outer space when I say ....I can't stand the game lol

Oh well what can you do.

There are so many sports that I've come to the conclusion if people want to kick or carry a ball or hit something into some sort of goal, etc., then it's ok by me. If others want to call it a sport, watch it, I got no problem with it.

No, come Olympic time, there's always some rather interesting things that are labled as sports. Curling probably seems odd to many people. The one that really made me  was a particular gymnastics event that involved jumping around waving a stick with a ribbon on it and bouncing a rubber ball. Now that one seemed to stretch it for me, but then I remember...

All sports are somewhat silly or semi-pointless. I think that's the point...

How can you rant on football. Whats the worse that can happen in socer, you trip and fall? Allow 300+ pound players of all muscle tackle you in socer and you will be crying for pads in about 5 min

lol then go play rugby, 300 pounders and you aint wearing pads :) in reality tho both hurt as much, you just tend to bleed and break a lot more in rugby.
but i have in all my years to see a rugby or maerican football player take a dive and whine, seen many get a good pasting and jump back up again.

Hehehe, ok how bout we give you a ball and let you run down the field with it, and them we'll let a defender run up from behind and slide tackle you, spikes up, so now you were just running full speed and someone came up and took your legs out from under you... isn't slide tackling not allowed in football(American football) cause someone might get hurt?

Or how 'bout we send a corner kick in right towards the net and you can go up for a header and we'll send the keeper out to challange you and you can have a mid-air collision or better yet the keeper can go to punch out the ball and punch you in the head instead, no helmet to protect you...Midair collisions are the worst man, they hurt, especially with a keeper who's gonna do all it takes to keep the ball out.

No No I got it, free kick, right in front of the net, and guess where we'll put you, right smack in the middle of the wall, so now you get to stand right in front of a guy who is about to take a full force shot on net and you are in his way, better block your testicles, cause your hands are the only padding you'll get...

I play Varsity soccer at my HS and sure we get no respect from the football players or anything, but hey who cares. I won't go off and say soccer is tougher then football, rugby or lacrosse seeing as I've never played those competively, however I will tell ya that soccer can be brutal. Worst I ever had is when I was going for a ball that just kinda rolling around so I went to go after it and of course I got blind sided by some jerk on the other team. That was pretty painful, no pads or anything, not even a stoppage of game.

better block your testicles, cause your hands are the only padding you'll get...

That's bad too, I play right defense so of course I'm always in the 'wall.' And ya know if you turn your head, or your body the ball is going to go around, and most likely in the goal, so of course you have to face it and hope to god that the guy isn't aiming for them. The bad part is when you get hit there it's not this instant pain, but you go down instantly cause you know it's gonna hurt like hell in a few seconds and when it does holy crap.

you can have a mid-air collision or better yet the keeper can go to punch out the ball and punch you in the head instead, no helmet to protect you

My coach said when he was in a tournement to make some type of national team he was about to head the ball in, but the goalie didn't want to look bad so he punched my coach in the temple leaving him with a nice concussion (one of the 5 he claims to have gotten).

Boy do I have to something to look forward to this summer 'hell week' where run the beaches, the hills, and then head to the weight room. If you ever wanna see people puke, come watch us and you'll see plenty of puking.... <--- Wonders why he added that last comment.

i went across to america on an exchange program with my county ruga team. We had to play against a high school team playing american football.

We had no idea about the rules, we nearly killed the lot of them. Appart from anything else, they just couldn't move and dodge as fast as we could without the pads.

oh, and its football, not soccer. You, (meaning americans) are the only ones who call it soccer.
