i just installed POP Authenticated SMTP Relaying Release 1.3pre1 onto my raq4r. i also just found out from the cobalt-users list that this version supposedly has a bug and should be uninstalled. being a newbie, how can i uninstall this? i looked all over the gui with no luck.

What bug does it have?.

after posting my problem to the cobalt-users group someone responded with:

"I believe this version is broken. You should uninstall and go back to
the 1.2-4 version (the previous one), which works fine.

Also check the Cobalt website (same place you got the 1.3pre2 version),
and check the list archives. Search for the same problem you have; I
*know* I've seen it at least 25 times before and there's been a lot of
discussion on it. So, just by finding those conversations in the
archives, you should be able to find your solution without *anyone's*
help."

That version left our smtp server wide open. Anyone off our server could send mail through it when we had it installed.

did you do anything after the install to make it work?

did you set up the mail server fields in Outlook with pop.domainname.com as the pop mail server and domianname.com as the smtp mail server?

to make sending email work. after the install of the pop-before-relay no emails reach their destinations. no error messages or bounce backs either.

i rebooted the server. Then it all worked.

It doesnt relay mail for domains off the server now. Unlike the old version which you were advised to put back on.

I do get a lot of failed 1 thingys but dunno what that is.

I REBOOTED AND NOW IT WORKS!!!!! i guess i should take my own advice to my customers --- don't call me until you reboot first.

Which version? 1.2-4 or 1.3pre1 ?
