View Full Version : Refferal + Web Hosting???

Hello, I was wondering if it is possible to set up a referral program along with my web hosting. What I want to be able to do is everytime someone buys plans A, B, or C and followed a referal link OR typed in Refered by XXX, it will automatically store the name of the refferer and referee along with say 10% the amount the refered person paid.

I would want it to be used with ClientExec.

Here is an Overview:

Bob has hosting with me, he tells Sam about my website. Sam likes it and buys Plan C for $10. He fills in the billing page and receives 10% of what Sam payed (but instead of sending the money to him, it stores it into a database where it can be viewed by me.) I see Bob has accumulated $25 so I send him an Email would you like it through check, paypal, or as discount on hosting? He says hosting he gets that much off his next payment. He says check or paypal, I just send it right to him.

Would something like that work and would there happen to be a referral software out that isn't very expensive?

Sorry not sure where else to put this??

There are a bunch of ways to do it but you can certainly find what you're looking for but you'd need it to integrate with your billing provider... I've not used anything at all other than some custom scripts years and years ago and since then all I've used was a dual-payment process which was pretty shady. They paid initially the affiliate and then paid the company - that's how they (the client) wanted it so that's how they got it but I'd really recommend not trying that. Well, at least not trying that with hosting. Take a trip over to www.scriptdungeon.com and look in the PHP section for affiliate management and you'll see a bunch of stuff there I do believe. Something there will likely fit the bill.

I'd use a 3rd party like shareasale.com or if you have the money cj.com. That way you are using an independant party for tracking the hits and sales.

10% is way low I have saw hosts on CJ paying $50.00 for a shared hosting referral. Those prices are crazy I could never pay that much but the bigguns have that budget. I was thinking about using shareasale tonight but then again.. You have the $2 hosts paying $50 for a customer.. I can't compete when it's just a numbers game.

First of all, I would like to use a service that I can manage and am fully responsible for. Also, as you will see around here a lot- its not the amount of money it is the quality. I focus on making our web hosting services good enough to the point where I don't even need to pay people to tell others. The affiliate system would just be something to get more people interested in getting the word out. And the host you are talking of must be a one-time fee. I plan on doing something such as 10% signup and then an undecided percent of the monthly fees. So if they stayed signed up for 2 years, someone will make quite a bit. Say 10% = $3 which for some plans will. Then they refer one person who stays signed up for 2 years, $3 x 12 x 2 = $72 and ofcourse that amount will go up the longer they are with us.

Of course that is an example scenario without all the facts worked out. We are still working on what we will do, but I have found a Program called Post Affilliate (http://www.webradev.com/postaffiliate/) If I like their program I may buy the Pro service for my company. I seem to have a little bit of trouble understanding the Install so I will have to ask our Tech guy when he is available.

Portalplanet, I thankyou for what you said before because instead of modifying the whole script I will decide on a higher commision amount. Currently It is up to a maximum of about $13 per sale but I will ofcourse change it as I see fit. I managed to get the script installed and am seeing what can be customized/changed on it as we speak. Currently I would suggest it to others who are looking for a basic affiliate program.

The way Post Affiliate (http://www.webradev.com/postaffiliate/) works is it has the php file of how much to put into the account of the reffer. If you want to give different amounts based on what service is sold, just make a few random ones and put the amount of money in the specified area. Then you just include it in the order confirmation page. Seems easy enough, I'll report back as I get more acquainted with it.
