View Full Version : Star Wars questions...
Aussie Bob 05-30-2002, 09:09 AM Ok, took the tribe to see Star Wars today. I have some questions -
(1). Is the Emperor that trained Darth Vader the politician chap that was given the ultimate power by the Senate?
(2). What was that idiot Jar Jar Binks doing in this movie?
(3). How come Yoda can barely walk but when he was fighting the old bloke with the beard, he moves like lightning?
:cartman:

I don't remember if he trained Darth Vadar, but yes, Darth Sidius and Senator Palpatine are the same person.
(2). What was that idiot Jar Jar Binks doing in this movie?
Ask George Lucas. I bet people would wonder what happened to him if he wasn't in the movie.
(3). How come Yoda can barely walk but when he was fighting the old bloke with the beard, he moves like lightning?
Maybe he's concentrating more on the Force?
How come Yoda can barely walk but when he was fighting the old bloke with the beard, he moves like lightning?
Pumped him up with caffeine for that scene
:D :D :D
phpjames 05-30-2002, 10:08 AM I love how you could tell that even in the last movie (4th or first however the hell you look at it) you could tell the Senator was going to be a baaaaaaaaaad monkey. Who knew he was the Darth Sidius guy from the beginning? Hes sooo EVIL

Yeah, I got that when he was talking to Anikan about Ankian being the best Jedi there ever will be etc. But he did have the background to play the evil dude - he was a politician afterall. :D

I think Yoda was the best character in the whole film. That little fella has the moves!! :D
INurv 05-30-2002, 11:46 PM I discussed number 3 with my friends:
We have come to the conclusion that Yoda wants to appear humble - he is obviously against obnoxiousness and outword displays. He wants to appear as humble as possible, but he has the capability within.
He has the power!
davidb 05-30-2002, 11:51 PM Yoda is old. Yet when he needs to he can burst his energy. You see how he was really weak after the fight. It takes a lot out of him.

HELLL YEAA~~~~~ GO YODA GO YODA! hehe :D
i wanna see the old emperor and yoda go at it... i guess thats in episode 3 maybe?
dragonhawk 05-31-2002, 12:00 AM I thought that was a pretty cool scene... I cracked up a bit though when he did that Jet Li pose... so did everyone else in the cinema.
Most of my friends thought that it was one of the stupidest scenes though...
Also I think Yoda appears more animated and therefore more 'unreal' if you compare him to the Yoda in Star wars 5 and 6... I'm used to the stiff Yoda. This one's facial expressions are a little off-putting :p
UmBillyCord 05-31-2002, 12:02 AM (3). How come Yoda can barely walk but when he was fighting the old bloke with the beard, he moves like lightning?
My view is that Yoda is an alcoholic! All the signs are there. Wrinkly, chapped skin. Speak problems. Hunched over with staggering walk. When something gets in his way for a drink - damn he can move. Ever seen a drunk go nuts when someone takes the last beer? It is kind of like that.
Of course Lucas will not reveil this until episode 3 - but I have an advanced copy of the script. (I bought it on eBay for $20.00). After Yoda shows up to an AAA meeting drunk, he is expelled to a swamp moon ........ but that story is told in episode 5.
Roy@ENHOST 05-31-2002, 05:30 AM Yoda is just a great fighter who doesnt show his ability.
And I feel very sad that Anakin lost his arm.I mean such a young and promising guy losing his right arm is a pity.
And is Senator Palpatine a Jedi? Is he Darth Sidius himself or are the 2 roles just acted by the same actor?
I chance upon a Star Wars Comic recently and took the time to browse it and gosh I found it to be much less confusing than the movie. Throughout the session I was like" ohhhh...so this was what actually happened inthe movie" I highly recommend it to everyone.

I love the pic of Yoda when he had his lightsaber drawn and was just about to engage the old guy with the beard. Yoda looked so mean. :D

Like father, like son.
Luke lost his arm to Vader's lightsaber in Empire, and in Jedi when he tried to return the favor, he found that all he'd done was hack off Vader's prosthetic arm.
So, in the backstory that is Ch 1-3, Anakin had to lose his hand.
What's messed up is the Hangar Duel Anakin Skywalker figure, half of his arm comes off so you can 'recreate' the duel.
Shannon 05-31-2002, 01:59 PM One theory on the whole Anakin loss of arm thing (Besides the fact that later Vader's one arm is mechanical. I mean, the whole thing with Vader was that the BULK of his body was mechanical! the man was a walking talking life support system! ehehehe) was that it was a symbolic thing... in many religious/social/ethnic backgrounds the left hand is considered 'the bad hand' or the evil hand... (an entire list of superstitions around this can be found here (http://pages.nyu.edu/~whl203/lefty/superstitions1.htm)... So, by chopping off Anakin's "Good" arm... all that is left? Eeeeevil.
And lets face it, Episode 3 has to be the turning point for little Ani, so what better way to turn him into a mean, nasty ruthless member of the darkside, but to make him bitter over the loss of his arm! :)
dektong 05-31-2002, 03:20 PM I have another question to the starwars experts :)
On the first and second episode of starwars, Obiwan-Kenobee (spelling) clealry has met R2D2 and C3PO. But when I watched the fourth episode again, I am surprised to see that Obiwan does not seem to recognize R2D2/C3PO nor R2D2/C3PO seems to recognize Obiwan. In fact Obiwan clearly says (in the fourth episode) that he does not know R2D2 (perharps, implicitly). Any explanation on this?
cheers,
michaeln 05-31-2002, 03:28 PM Actually I believe he said he didn't ever remember owning a droid. The droids likely wouldn't remember him if they had changed owners hands as it is likely their memories had been erased. Maybe multiple times. Remember when Uncle Owen told Luke to take them to have the memories erased?
If you recall through them all of the movies out to date there were many many R2 units etc. That would explain why Obi-Wan didn't recognize them. Who knows how many he had seen in his life, or worked with.
I know. It is sad and pathetic I have thought all of this out.. LOL
Regards
Michael

Ok, he lost his mother. That would effect him, but he just married that senator women. Life isn't exactly all doom and gloom hey??
Shady12 05-31-2002, 10:31 PM Thanks for the explanation on Why Owen and Obi Wan didn't recognize the droids... Another thing... If Palpatine is Sidious, which seems obvious........Palpatine obviously has a ton of power with the Force. And Jedi can sense the Force in people. Shouldn't they feel that in Palpatine, and if so, why didn't he grow up training to be a Jedi instead of being a politician?....I guess Sidious probably was a Jedi turned bad, but shouldn't they still be able to sense how much power with the Force ole Palpy has and put 2 and 2 together??
agiledesigns 05-31-2002, 10:57 PM Actually, to answer your question about why the jedi cannot sense sidious, I think it is re iterated multiple time throughout episode II that the jedi's ability to use the force has diminshed and their vision has been clouded. If you do some background reading it seems that the sith do not need to be previous jedi. If they where, the jedi council would know about it right? My questions are the following:
who trained the master evil sith?
what happens to queen amidala throughout the other episodes?
Shady12 05-31-2002, 11:10 PM Ah, I guess that would explain that.
michaeln 05-31-2002, 11:35 PM Yoda is forever talking about how the dark side clouds things which is why they don't sense the evil in Darth Sidious (Palp).
Aussie Bob 06-01-2002, 12:05 AM I can't wait for the Star Wars 6 DVD box set to come out in 5 years or so. It would be sweet to watch them all from start to finish on a big screen on DVD. :D
agiledesigns 06-01-2002, 12:27 AM WHat is getting me particularly excited is the fact that there will be new scenes and people added to the episodes 4-6 (I hear Jar jar and Amidala will appear in parts of those episodes). Although not very surprising, it makes me feel all warm and tingly inside. I also can't wait for the fight scenes in episode 3. I think after watching all of the episodes in a row, star wars will be a much better experience.

Yep. I should has also said whatever format we'll be wathing it on by 5 yrs from now. I'm not sure if DVD will still be around then. But whatever format, it'll make for a good weekend's viewing. :D
Maybe the cinemas will offer all 6 films in a marathon session etc. That would be sweet!! :D
dragonhawk 06-01-2002, 03:45 AM They showed Ep 4,5,6 on TV a few weeks back with all the new scenes... It's quite easy to recognise these new scenes coz in a way, they stand out... ie. they have better special effects in those scenes... though I don't remember seeing either jar jar or amidala in any of 4,5,6.

agiledesigns 06-02-2002, 04:12 PM Hey NumLock, what was it that you removed? Can you please PM it to me? I am druelling :liplick:
agiledesigns 06-02-2002, 04:14 PM Oh, I almost forgot.
Queen Amidala and Jar Jar will be added within the next release of star wars. I am assuming that as episode III is released onto DVD, there where be a ton of special stuff included. I can guarantee that I will be buying the whole series when they come out. :D

Why did you remove it?? :bawling: It was a good read. We all know that it's not what's really going to happen. I don't think they have nailed down the script completely yet anyways. :)
NumLock 06-03-2002, 06:24 AM it was a Star Wars III spoiler story of the whole new movie. from the looks of it, the story seems to be the REAL one, it all fits together and will flow with the story in episode IV
nope, i'll not put it back again, i don't want to spoil those peep's who don't want to know the whole story before they get to watch the move, kinda gets the thrill out of watching.:D

Bah. The scenes they added int he Special Edition were bad enough. They mess things up, and most are downright stupid. They don't belong. Give me the original, un-edited versions any day.

There are heaps of "spoiler stories" out there at the moment. I doubt whether the producers of the next Star Wars flick have completely settled on the script yet. I think it goes into production June 2003 for a 2005 release. :)
And boy, what will our hosting businesses look like in 2005??
NumLock 06-03-2002, 12:39 PM hmmmm............might be......im hoping its different.,,,keep your fingers crossed...................for 3 more years...lol
And boy, what will our hosting businesses look like in 2005??
ummmm...........look like? well, u guys gonna get a new design and make web designers richer?, just a comment
Zutroy 06-03-2002, 03:12 PM The script for Episode 3 hasn't even been written yet. It's not scheduled to begin filming until fall 2003. Any "stories" about the plot are fan fabrications, although there are a few really good ones going around. Same thing was done for Episode 1 and 2, and those stories turned out to be very difference from the actual final product.
Phoenix 06-03-2002, 07:03 PM Other than a few minor details, how many legitimate spoilers can there be. We already know what happens afterwards because it was all given away in Chapters 4-6.
Palpatine/Darth Sidious becomes the Emperor
The Jedi are annihilated
Yoda hides out in a swamp
Amidala has twins
Anakin becomes Darth Vader
Obi-Wan ends up on tatooine keeping an eye on Luke (who is parked with Owen and Beru)
Amidala and daughter Leia end up on Aldaraan, with Bail Organa, and she grows up without knowing she was not Bail's daughter
Amidala dies young enough that Leia barely remembers her
All that's left is to watch it all unfold...with a lot of cool battle scenes, and some fierce lightsaber action.
